Warner, we are trying. Even an ASE proper repair may not "fix" the problem. An older model's computer gets old; reads are often random, not accurate. You know Barney ? He's in Lancaster. He'll take a six pack ( geary's ) Now for a reality check: if and when the staties or locals catch you, what is the fine ? Worth the risk ? No..then.... Option # __ --- many good used AWDs on CL for sale in N.H. For us in northern New England, salt wrecks what there is in the undercarriage anyhow. I'm done. Good luck.
Agree, car is fixed for now, but it is old and if this CEL problem happens every year then something is drastically wrong. Even getting the catalytic converter replaced under warranty every year costs money for labor and my time. They need a standard cutoff time for older cars. Actually I thought there is a monetary cutoff for older cars if it costs more that $650 to fix the emissions? Does anyone know about this? Cost Waiver for emissions fix The waiver described in the link below is temporary for one year and must pass the next year. :-( Ask the Ref > Services > Repair Cost Waivers
Hello Emissions and Your Collector Vehicle | Hagerty Media NH law for older car emission testing. Does this mean in 2 more years this 2002 Honda CRV will be completely exempt for emission testing?? Therefore it a waiver next year is granted When the car is 19 years old because a new catalytic converter with labor is more than $650, then the year after that it will be 2o years old and no need for emission testing??
650$+ for cat replacement is outrageous. It is a very simple part to replace. You need to find another mechanic. edit: just reread 650 parts and labor? Parts are available for under 150 and if it’s only been a year since it has been replaced it shouldn’t be a difficult job to tackle DIY
The reality is not. With 100's of thousands of line of code for just the software, the firmware embedded in your system, components that don't do what their original specs specify, and the age of wiring connecting circuit boards that leak current IN YOUR CAR, the readings can and do vary. Not fake news. That is reality with just standard tech Warner. Then there is the hacking , yes hacking, in what we call the Internet of Things. 60 Minutes had a piece on the hack of a Cherokee, controlling accelerator, brakes, lights with no control by the operator. If you doubt this , fine. Look at the strange often random things that are on your PC or cell fon. Stihl trying to help ( no good deed goes unpunished ). Find Barney in Lancaster, N.H. Pay him. Move on. P.S. Doing the cat is only one small part of the puzzle. Not peazy.
Real. Butt--middle name is "Barney". It's off to see the wizard Warner.....in the trade it is called "magical thinking". Bet ? That magic cat you put in will not bring you joy. Then you can get the N.H. R.C.W. After you spend at least $650. Live free or >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
You are lovely in Alcoa Warner...pretty. "We're off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of Oz...... " Get back to us when you do the R.C. W. So , did the two bolt cat and O2 magic solve the CEL ? Curious minds want to know.
Been fixing cars for a number of years now, aftermarket cats are always a crap shoot, don't seem to last like the oem ones do Brother in law is parts manager at local honda dealer and says same thing, No emission testing here, but 96 and up need cats to pass safety inspection
it"s like replacing alternators nowdays, might as well just buy at least 3 cause you know at least 2 are not going to work correctly. Does not seem to matter where purchased either. problem is not in the winding most of the time - but the regulator assembly- ah for the old days when that was separate part bolted to the fender wall or firewall.
damm Warner you smoking something funny ? You for real ? Let's hold your hand on this. N.H. has a REPAIR COST WAIVER ( R.C.W.) set up for those who have older vehicles that have expensive repairs. No begging. Now Warner ( Alcoa ) since you're making light of this, look the %$#@* thing up, read your guy from Salem (here) who knows, do some effort. Hey, I'm from Vacationland, for real. No tin. And, if you think ( THIMK) that high tech always goes from A to B, look up "hack". I don't get benjamins for this ( moderator orders ). You know Barney ?
