Have my wife relatives over for cookout this afternoon. The uncle sees my woodpile ask “10yrs...??? More”. He was half kidding but was definitely wowed by it. I have probably 11 cords. Aunt says it will go bad after a while and uncle jumps in saying 5 yrs is about perfect. I like his way of thinking.

I find it amusing the way people react when they hear or see my firewood stacks. (I'm sitting on almost 13 cords, need 2 more cords to be on 3 year plan.) I think to myself, what the hay? I'm not even a minor league level hoarder and still a rookie.
When I tell them I want to add another 12 cord, they think I'm :loco: .
"What are you going to do with all that wood?" "You must be tired of splitting and stacking" "Never ending, isn't it?"

I hope it never ends........................ It's my therapy. :dex:

It never bothered me when people would sarcastically ask if I thought I had enough wood.

I’ve heard a few off hand comments from locals - the type of guys that cut in the fall and burn in open hearths. Never hear any complaints from company on a cold winter day when the house is comfortable and warm

I get the occasional "do you think you have enough wood yet" comment...

I don't go into the whole speech on 3 plus years of seasoning with non wood burners.
I found just telling them I like the house to be around 76 degrees all winter usually takes care of any further questions.

It's therapy, exercise, money in the bank, fire risk reduction, timber management, conservation, electrical outage preparedness and a pension plan - all in one.
I'm puzzled by the people who make off hand comments on my effort, then again, I don't understand why they waste their time like they do.

I also never tire of the comments almost everyone makes when they enter our home in the winter months. "Geeze. It's really warm in here!" Over the years, I've had exactly one person who did not like it. But then, whenever I went to his home, I left my outdoor clothing on because it was so cold in his house.

I had a visit with a fellow today while within sight of my stacks. Of course we had to talk about it a little. He thought it was a lot, I told him that it was only about a 1/3 of what I would like to have

I think anyone who does the 3 year or more plan is going to get a comment. I know I have had my share especially here where there are no trees to be seen. I just tell them yep I am on the 3 year plan. They say huh and I say you know the 3 year plan. That usually ends the conversation.

Some funny stories some of you guys have.

If you have more than 1 years worth when you plan to burn 5 cords is going to get the "sure you got enough wood?" comments.

Right, somehow you’re strange if you’re prepared, but normal if you’re burning wet wood you bought 2 month ago.

It is amazing. People constantly comment on my wood shed that holds 6 cords.

"How many years worth is that?".

"One if i'm lucky and its a very mild winter!" "Then again, I have 20 totes filled up in the woods, and several cords of reserve wood in other stacks."

Always a head scratcher. I'm convinced most people who "burn wood" do it in a fireplace for ambiance a few times a winter. They'll be lucky to burn half a cord. They genuinely don't get heating your entire house with exclusively wood all winter.
