Not once but twice

    I get most of my wood from tree services so it’s yard wood which we all know can be full of metal. I guess I get lucky more times than not but that wasn’t the case today. I saw this chain so I knew to steer clear of it and wouldn’t you know it there was a nail in another spot that wasn’t visible from the exterior. Finished cutting that log with that chain. Put another chain on and after about a tank and a half of gas hit another damm piece of metal in a different log. Ugh! I finished the second log off by pounding an old metal wedge into it to get it to pop.

    I believe it’s chesnutt oak. All I cut today was oak, a mixture of this, some white, and red

    Pretty sure all of us have been there? :whistle: I havent cut around any fences or houses in quite awhile but always thought something like this would be handy in some circumstances.:cheers:

    Always nice when you get a warning sign of metal in wood especially oak with the purplish stains or it sticking out. Maddening when youve thought you steered clear and end up hitting it. Been there, done that and its :hair::mad::headbang: for sure.
    Is that your normal MO to swap out chains/rotate a couple, multiples or fire up another saw?

    Yes, I just swap out chains and or saws. Most days I have two saws out there to cut with depending on log size

    Not sure how deep it can detect Rich? It was just the cheapest i googled.:coldone:
    Got a couple of wands at work and they are good at a few feet underground.:salute:

    Never used them on a log rider but did bring one home to find my late buddy's property stakes on the farm years ago and it was dead on duck.:yes:
    We use them for pipes and water valves at work and they work great for that also.

    Cant see any reason why they wouldnt work on a tree and pretty sure mills use them. :cheers:

    Beware the steel-spalted oak! Ouch. I cut metal for a living so I cringe when I see it happen. The old game of who's harder-chain vs. nail never ends well for either.

    I've got a 044 Stihl metal detector with a 36'' bar, plus a couple of 266 husky's, a Echo 590 even an old "mac'' all have metal detector tendencies. "We feel your pain"
