Went for a little walk today...to the summit of Mt. Marcy. At 5344ft. It's New York's highest peak.

It was an 18.2 mile round trip hike, my longest one day hike. At 67 tryin' to prove I still can. It will probably kill me!

The view from the top. I took more pictures with my good camera but the file size is too large so I'll post them once I reduce their size.

Great pictures ! That's a nice hike, any issues with the altitude? I'm assuming that's a bit higher than normal for you.

No issues with altitude just windy at the top and it was a hike through miles of boulder fields.

18 miles! and just look how much you had to climb up and up. You must be in good shape to do that. Thanks for sharing the fantastic pictures.

Might as well have been! Because so much of it was through boulder fields going down was no easier or much faster.

Ralphie Boy thank you for sharing this inspiring accomplishment. I am confident you will have many more hikes to enjoy.

I did an equivalent hike at age 56 this last fall while grouse hunting in elevation and uneven terrain. I made it ok, but suffered severe cramping in the large muscles of my legs later that day. What type of beverage and snacks are you taking on a walk like that? Did you gradually work up to that with regular hiking?

I typically take along water and a few apples. Thinking I may not have drank enough along the way and afterwards. I certainly didn't have enough prior hiking under my belt ahead of time. At age 36, even 50 leg cramps were not a problem.

    The picture is absolutely beautiful.

Yesterday's walk was a bit shorter and with less climbing. Only about 12 miles but still beautiful.

My wife and I walk 3 to 5 miles a day plus cycling and the wife is a runner.

We each carried a day pack with a water blater, trail mix, a bagel with cream cheese and a couple of apples each. Not a gourmet lunch but enough to keep us going.

If you get into that type of situation again, try taking about 4 benedryl before going to bed. It does help.
