Shown in the first 50 seconds of an Ask This Old House video:

It's a model from DR Power Equipment, here.

I have a specific use for it, it will fit nicely inside a 10'x14' fenced in rear patio of a townhouse condo, and it's compact and quiet. I can't use anything towed on wheels or that will make a lot of noise. And I have a close by source of unsplit logs two blocks away.

Sounds like it would be a good fit for your plans.

Tom did a good job on the tutorial. Much better than Bob Villa would have done. I remember his chainsaw “tutorial”. Lol. You can instantly tell if the person has ever really done what they’re explaining. Tom obviously has handsplit wood before. Bob clearly had never run a chainsaw before

Was curious what you meant by title, but now I see. Flywheel splitters, been around for a while now. See sirbuildalot avatar for the bee's knees.

Any reason you want flywheel style over regular electric? Probably a significant price difference, especially when something has the 'DR' name plate.

I do think it will work for you, either way.

Interesting you mention that. Here's another TOH video on all the possible tools for splitting wood, watching the video a few times let me to this website ("there's got to be a website where people talk about this ...").

    Welcome aboard!
And yup, there’s lots of opinions and discussion and great experience to glean from here.
I’m not a fan of the flywheel splitters. Once it’s told to go, there’s no turning back. No room for an I’ll timed decision. For your situation, that little electric/hydraulic would be my choice if I was going to get a piece of equipment. Or the Fiskar splitting ax. They are nice.
