I started with trap which was fun, Skeet much better but once you start shooting sporting clays you'll never go back to trap.

O/U's rule the sporting clays range.

Around 1969 I won the Junior or Sub-Junior Championship (can't remember which) at the Battle Creek GunClub with a 47 out of 50. I used to run the score sheets back to the clubhouse at most of the clubs in the area. 20.00 a day was good money then for a kid!! Me and my Dad would usualy go everyweekend and sometimes during the week.

I really enjoy trap, but it is the club that keeps me going back on Tuesday nights. Good bunch of guys, and I have a lot of fun shooting there. The nights that I don't, it is my own fault. If they closed shop, or started throwing skeet or sporting clays instead, that is more than likely what I would shoot as well. I have more guns that are more on par with those discipline(s) than I do that are suited for trap.
There is a place around here that throws sporting clays, I would like to check it out sometime.

For many years I was the gun captain for the local retriever club and I would line up the shooters for the live flyer station at our field trials. Guys who shot trap were OK at it, but the skeet and sporting clays shooters were drastically better wing shooters than trap shooters. IMHO that also translates into field shooting while hunting too.

Trap shooters are only shooting at targets going away in a pre set trajectory. Skeet has the angles but also with the same trajectory. Sporting clays has no two stations the same. Targets go away, at you, cross, overhead, bounce on the ground, go straight up, drop, and other manners that will leave you talking to yourself.

I shot clays for quite a few years. Met some great people made some great friends. I have an 1100 12ga., a Verona 12ga. and a Verona 28ga. Any of you Mi. guys ever shoot at Action Shooting Sports in Manton?

Oh boy !! For about 10 years I was in skeet and trap leagues up my way . Trap was always boring to me . Skeet was better......but then.....then I got hooked on sporting clays . I love moving around !! I wish I would have saved my reloading stuff . It got to be between paying to be in a league .....buying/reloading ammo....and practice 2 times a week.....lets just say I was a poor man !!! I just got rid of my last progressive reloader and about 1000 AA's and 2000 Remington STS....which I prefer . All 12 gauge..some 28 gauge . In the early 2000's we ran into bad batches of AA's...they would actually split up the side first shot out of a new box . And thats out of over and unders :( The only guns "made" for these type of activities that I still have are my perfect Remington 1100 Sporting 28...and my SKB o/u . The SKS has over 18,000 rounds through it just from me..and I bought it used . No forcing the barrels to break open on the old gal these days :) Ill post some pics in a few ! BTW...We always shot "low gun" or "hunting" style . Makes it more challenging and "real life" I shot with guys that read boosk on geometry and trajectory..and they just held the gun up to a pre determined point and yelled "pull" How boring !!Anyway..heres some pics... Boy is it hard to take a good pic of a gun ! 28 gauge is so easy on the shoulder ....and challenging as heck :)
Remington Sporting 28 on right . SKB 12 gauge o/u on left .

Anyone break any targets lately? I've been off and on the last couple weeks, but still having fun. Went about an hour a way a few weeks ago, missed a couple easy ones in a 50 bird program but still managed a 46.

Jeff been getting my son into sporting clays out back. 2 stations 2 traps. He likes it so far.

Enjoy the time with him too.

We realized one of the shotguns was 100 years old from when his great grandpa bought it in 1914 when it was his 16 birthday.

The double 16ga was late 30's too. Nothing fancy for us just good times.
