iirc there are apx 3 cvt systems all accomplish the same thing but arrive at that by different methods. Most might be familiar with the dual sliding cone system which has been used for many years in machine tools ( like vertical mills with variable speed spindles ) or the snowmobile units and of course the ones in the 4x4 UTV and ATVs. then there are some in automotive applications. According t0 literature from various mfg's the advantages are that you can set the engine speed for max efficiency and with the electronics the units will compensate for load vs ground speed automatically on the tractors. How they will stand the test of time is unknown at present. Various hydrostatic partial systems have been around since the 50's ( torque amplifiers for one)

Our Honda CRV has a CVT transmission and it’s great! It’s very smooth, has a lot of power and gets great MPGs.

I've never driven a tractor or UTV with CVT but they seem to be very common in them. That said, my wife' Subaru has a CVT and I absolutely detest that thing. It is the slushiest of slush boxes I've ever driven. Maybe I'm just old.

Had an Outback with one first year they came out. Dumb me, needed >$2k of work at 150k so I dumped the junk. It was a '10 4 banger, the problem was actually a torque converter issue.

Great cars, I just don't get along with the CVT. We used to have an '01 Forester w/ 5-speed manual. Like that one.

Good luck. Even back then it was hard to find a manual tranny. Can't be too many left around.

Apparently, most manual gearboxes are found in muscle cars like the Mustang, Challenger, Camaro, etc. In the "teenage daughter" market, it looks like you can get a stickshift model Honda Civic, Ford Focus, Fiat 5oo and for the reach in a Jeep Wrangler. However, I'll bet these are hard to find and you may pay a premium. I feel sorry for the kids these days who will never learn to drive a car/tractor/motorcyle with a clutch. Then again, maybe in a few years everything will be electric and transmissions will be irrelevant? I test drove a BMW i3 and it's pretty close to a "one pedal" driver.

Yes, forgot to put that one in the list when I was "cut-and-pasting." Thank you. Mazda is easily overlooked, but they have always been ahead of the curve. Excellent cars.

My wife has a '18 Hyundai Elantra 6 speed. Exactly what she wanted, gets over 40+ mph with me driving...:quad:...fairly cheap price tag. Be great for a teenager, small 4 cylinder. Now the GT has 205 hp turbo...

I really like the trans on our L3130GST Kubota. It has shuttle shift for F/R and you don't have to use clutch to change gears, doesn't have the whining sound of hydrostatic trans.

That is the one and only thing I don't care for with the tractor.

My HST is not terribly loud. Since it's open cab though, I wear ear protection for the engine noise.
