This little limb fell yesterday with all the wind we've had. Sad that it doesn't show up as good as I'd like but you can still see it is loaded with acorns. They aren't filled out yet but another month will make a big difference. I haven't checked other trees yet but fell most of them will be loaded like this. That will make the deer and turkeys happy.

And it makes me happy watching all the deer eat acorns under and around my tree stand in the fall!

Right on! One of the beauties of fall. Speaking of fall, it feels a bit like fall outside right now. Feels great but my body said I had to come indoors for a while.

Local word on the hay is that it is the best crop in decades. Harsh winter makes for heavy yields??

Heavy first cutting here too but that is mostly because the weather did not cooperate and the hay did not get cut at the right time. So, it kept growing. But, if the rains continue, the second cutting should be good too. Hopefully!

Heavy rain in June, almost as much in May too.Heavy snow over the winter but it wasn't enough to make much of a dent in the 2012-13 drought. The drought is now officially over here.Nice & cool past 2 days, only 62 now & cloudy.Rivers/creeks have crested & are slowly receding now after Monday's severe storms over most of the state.Mid-upper 70's through the weekend,no more rain until a 30% chance late Saturday night.

Good hard mast. Got any local beech trees to compare with? It sometimes seems that the beech nuts seem to run contrary to the acorns. Maybe that was the plan.

The alfalfa field across the road is ready for it's 3rd cutting already. The second cutting gave 39 bales on 15 acres.

That is good?! I'm used to seeing 80-100 bales an acre.

Pretty much all the beech is gone around here. The only beech we have are very young trees; too young to have nuts.

Holy cow!!!! Around these parts, the second cutting happens usually in late July. I've seen third cutting as late as late September. Certainly have never seen it this early.

Good for the hay yield. I'm betting their will be a lot of it heading for the areas hit with severe drought. It is being said that beef prices are way up because of the drought. We don't eat much beef and there are just the two of us so the impact on us is not so bad as those with growing families.
