It was a beautiful June day today, and the firewood gods called to me from upon high and said "Thou must processeth firewood my son." And yay, it was good. A cup of coffee was quaffed while using my new electric chain sharpener, and once she was good and sharp I set out to noodle some wood. I still have about half a cord of super hard sugar maple that is split resistant. No match for a saw though. I noodled up enough to get a nice crib stack going in the wood shed, and I'm sure the neighborhood loved me for it. I will say that I should have bought that Harbor Freight sharpener months ago. Pride goeth before the fall, but screw pride, because while hand filing 76 links on a 20 inch bar might fill you with pride, it doesn't beat taking 10 minutes to do the same job with a precise, electric device. On to the next holz hausen. I didn't plan on doing another one, but it's a good decoration around the well cap. So while it doesn't have the same capacity as a true 'hausen, it certainly looks cool and I don't have to look at an ugly concrete cylinder in the middle of the back yard. The wife likes it too, so you can't beat that. Two beers and an unquantifiable amount of oak rounds later and this kid was feeling just fine. I must swing an axe on a semi-daily basis or I get cranky. I try to explain this to my friends but they don't get it... only you folks here in the forum know what I'm talking about. Another great day in the pile. The cosmic ballet continues my friends. Be kind to one another. Go do great things and help each other out.
Lookin good rainking63. Love the well hausen. I can relate to not swinging the axe. Gotta get my daily "fix". Was a gorgeous day, perfect for this time of year
You definitely have a firewood problem... Holz Hausens, chain grinders, cribbing, woodshed.. Beer... Love the pics.. Nice job, maple cribbing splits look great!
I get exactly what you’re talking about. My wife was getting on my case today about the wood scrounging. She asked if I thought I had enough yet. I fought back the urge to remind her of what I could be doing in lieu of all this woodpiling fun. “Just one more” is still the biggest lie I tell myself Splitting wood is a damm good outlet for taking out all of your earthly existential frustrations on. All I know is, I’ve never left a splitting session feeling worse (emotionally) than before I went into it.
Indeed this June weather has been great for several days now. However, it appears it will be coming to an end in just a few days.
