I've replaced the wheel bearings on the right front side on the 3130 twice. The left side went out, but looks like more damage was done......don't know who wouldn't stop to fix it, even after they had gotten the parts for it...... Anyway, the outside race spun in the housing, and it has some wear on the end of the axle. Both bearings failed... The new bearing seems to fit tight in the housing. Asking my mechanic/machinist friends for advice... SKEETER McCLUSKEY Screwloose Buy new housing and axle or see if it can be fixed?
In this case I'd say green locktite would probably work. Also I'd wonder why the cage is failing, dropping a piece let alone a ball in the works would be catastrophic.
same here as Screwloose ....clean with acetone then green bearing retainer...they usually arnt a super press fit anyways. maybe just dress up the end of that axle a little.
Buy a can of this activator for the retaining compound. It speeds cure time so you can put it back in service
What they said...I'm a fan of the primer too. Yeah, weird you are having these failures...it's not like you ever overload the front axle...
Its usually from heavy bucket work like brenndatomu said,I've changed dozens of them, the last one I did for a landscaper had an oversize bucket on it.
Not meee 1/2 face cord of green oak shouldn't be too heavy...... Or a couple 28" and 35" oak logs...... It has been a great tractor, 2006 model, only 3rd time replacing wheel bearings...
Do some searching to se if you can get lucky and find either a spherical caged roller bearing or a ball bearing with a higher ball count
Jeff, you have something to measure the bore, Outer Diameter, and width? Does that bearing have a part # on it? I kinda know a place that deals with bearings
Geez, put me out of business will ya. A major portion of my work is reengineering failure prone machinery to make it more reliable.
Looks like Chaz has a lead for you. Bearings are a commodity item and OEM's rarely put the best bearing available in. A good bearing house armed with dimensions can contact manufacturers directly and tap into their engineering department. Yours looks like cage failure and heavy duty cages are available.
Maybe they make these...they are pretty popular in the ATV/off-road world. The #1 Source For Bearings, Seals, Cables, Carburetor Rebuild Kits & More | All Balls Racing
We got it farther apart last night. It is ugly in there. Pieces of race, retaining cage are everywhere in the lower unit. Going to replace the other bearings too. I learned a VERY EXPENSIVE lesson...
