The whole identity politics thing and failure to see people's actions as just that-THEIR OWN actions, is just dividing everyone further. The cop in this case was an a$$4@le and deserves what's coming to him. But he doesn't represent law enforcement officers collectively, nor do his actions. Nor should he be made an example of and be given the karmic payback for every wrong every white cop has inflicted on every black person throughout history. He should be punished for HIS crime. Collective guilt and collective victimhood are counterproductive. I know cops are vetted pretty thoroughly before even becoming eligible to be considered for employment. If after lengthy review it's determined that the vetting process needs to be overhauled, so be it. Why is it that all that's ever discussed in the mass media concerning law enforcement is these renegade cops on power trips warped by racial profiling? Why don't they ever share with the world how many times a police officer stopped a kidnapper, a robbery, a murder, helped a kid with a flat tire on his bike or an elderly person carry their groceries? Why is the media bent on pushing their negative narrative that everything in the world is falling apart, that we're all going to die from any number of unforeseeable evils, and we better be outraged at and afraid of everything? Shame on them for not shining the flashlight on the entire story of what's really happening on our little blue dot floating through space.

Because that is how we expect a police officer to behave. Murder is news. I think bad behavior should have a flashlight ( or a cellphone video) shone on it.

I'm getting some strength. I still have little endurance and always hunting for my air. Takes a lot of energy to haul my over sized body around.
Thanks for asking. This forum is my favorite hangout.

Good point. I just wish there was a balance to what is considered important enough to make it to the news. Absolutely, expose every shortcoming of the establishment, every scandal, every injustice. But also show children growing up that are just trying to be kids that the world is not ALL bad. All they show is negativity; they paint a bleak outlook of the future for kids. They're told human beings are nothing but a cancer on the planet and that everyone is doomed. Then we sit back and wonder why kids today are so apathetic, so jaded with their young lives, so self-absorbed that they go out and shoot their classmates.

This IS ABSOLUTELY about making things better, for all the black kids who are afraid of getting killed. This is a lesson that their lives are valuable, and that we as a society are going to do something to protect them. QVhI6Pm.png

No argument there.... This country was forged out of discontent. Change is imminent. Establishment politicians that are all bought and paid for by special interest groups aren't going to do it, it's going to come down to the people in the streets to be the catalyst for change. I'm not trying to minimize the issue or say the outrage isn't justified, sweep this under the rug, think it'll go away in a couple weeks, or be a bootlicker and claim all cops are good people.... Only, very simply, that it wouldn't hurt to show something positive in the news, if only once in a while.

I guess it depends on what your definition of positive is....

Anything that restores faith in humanity. Pretty much the opposite of what we get bombarded with. Little things. Show me an underdog story, a story of forgiveness, of compassion, empathy, triumph, of real human potential. Not the incessant banter which basically boils down to which set of masters is less evil than the other and who's to blame for the current circumstances we all find ourselves in.

I thought so too. There's even plenty of relevant content pertaining to the whole movement. I like how they highlight any small steps forward. It's a nice departure from the constant stream of riots, destruction and heated debate.

Eric, good news doesn't sell, and it doesn't help promote the narrative that they use to get what they want. It doesn't divide people and further agendas. It is very sad....have only see a couple bits of "good news" in this mess lately...

Sad but true. Doom and gloom keep people hanging on the edge of their seats, and the more people tune in, the more money rolls in from advertisers and who-knows-where. It's not exactly a transparent institution but it's pretty obvious who's gunning for who on the major networks. Good luck separating fact from fiction too. Everyone's pushing their own agenda.

We had to go meet one of the wife's co-workers this afternoon. Decided to get something to eat while we were up that way. Guess what we did??? We ate IN a restaurant!!!:bug:
How's that for good news? :D

It actually felt kind of weird, just because it had been so long, and they were such a no-no just the other week. They were seating like every other booth, and the tables in the middle had a little more room around. Had to look at the menu on our phones, that part sucked. But it was good to see things opening, and there were quite a few patrons there eventually, all spaced according to the emperor's orders!

Great news! Halfway back to normalcy, proceeding with caution is better than nothing. Consumers are going to have the final say in when things get really humming again. I think a lot of us have had enough of being told to hunker down in fear. I certainly have.
