Had a friend offer me an arrow straight white oak he took down. I left some of the top end but otherwise was a decent load. The 80% humidity and real feel temp of 96 made for a soaking.
I don't mind cutting year round with the proper hydration. I mix a pouch of oral rehydration salts in a 32 oz Nalgene bottle and let it absorb about an hour prior to working and another 32 oz after the day is done, usually have no cramps, nausea, dizziness etc.
Good grab. I spent 6 hours moving/stacking splits today. Mid 90's and full sun. Nice breeze was a lifesaver! Lots of un-chilled water. I like heat compared to most
90 here today and we brought 1 trailer load of mulberry home and unloaded it into the needs split pile. Going back for another load tomorrow, supposed to be mid 90’s. The wood that’s left is all the big stuff. By the way, white oak is my favorite.
I left a monster laying on the ground that's just way to big for a solo guy and a pickup. Shame to see it rot but no way to get it out of there without some big machines.
Want some pics of my rig for getting out those big ones? My biggest so far was 41” dia rounds, 24” long that weighed 800 pounds each green.
Made a plate that fits into the receiver, then insert another hitch into that one to hold the trailer from tipping when loading heavy rounds, welded a fair lead on top rail of trailer to guide cable, use old school chained logging hooks. The rounds on the trailer are 41” dia, 24” long, 800 pounds.
Like yours better but I already had a 5x10 trailer so I went this way. Many times I’ve thought about a dump.
What is the largest diameter you'll tackle yourself Wes Hightower ? Do you have a cant/peavey hook? Great tool if you dont.
jo191145 , is that square "arch" at the back of the trailer a loading arch? Guy on youtube, Matthew Cremona, made a trailer with a log arch on it, dang impressive what he can load with it. Would love to be able to rig up something like that......
Never really measured them but probably 24" or so. Being I don't trailer anything or split on sight I keep everything within my lifting limits to my tailgate.
