Drove by this a few times this weekend to and from the score i was working. Wasnt sure what it was and stopped on my way back today to check it out. Sassafras. IMG_2650.JPG IMG_2651.JPG IMG_2652.JPG
Its sitting roadside untouched. Cut in the last few weeks. Its a case of im not sure who's property its on and who to ask. Narrower road with light traffic. The only reason i'd want it was its size. Big sum beech for sure!

That's a whopper buddy! Nice score and seems in very good shape. Every sass I've touched (mostly all on my property) was hit with some kind of insect. But I love me some sass.....!

Not taking it...yet. Very close roadside and have to get the okay. Doubtful anyone would mess with wood that big. Average scroungers dont. Im fearing barbed wire as its on the edge of an old field...stone wall too. It'd be cool to buck though.:saw:

I want to make a room out of sassafras wood and just inhale all day. Love that stuff!

I can't say that I've ever seen one that big in diameter.

Ive heard of a cedar closet. How about a sassafras closet?
Ill bet you could fit in one of these if hollowed out.
If i end up cutting these, i'd be glad to bring some your way rainking63

Does sassy "bleed" stains like oak does lukem? There looked like some scarring on one of the pieces bark reminiscent of barbed wire. If i end up cutting some ill have to very mind full.

In my experience, all wood stains to some extent. If you see a questionable looking area in any tree, you always cut around it anyway.

That’s even bigger than the wood I posted about in my “big sass” thread

Remember the thread, but just looked it up. Yours was a good size. That does it, now im on a big sass mission. Dang, and im out of state for three days. Friday maybe.
I seriously doubt the average scrounger will touch this til then, unless jo191145 is in the neighborhood with his trailer rig!

I just skimmed that article. No talk of sassafras as an excellent kindling wood. Total missed opportunity, lol.

My mom loves the stuff. She likes to add it in with the hardwood to start everything going faster.
Nothing wrong with it. It has its uses,,,just like Catalpa that I picked on ya for LOL. It’s all useful for something.
I have at least four cords of it. Hope mom doesn’t change her mind :)

And yeah, that would be the biggest I’ve ever seen. Yuge!!
