Any ideas for the muffler?

As you can see the exhaust of my splitter blows right on your leg. While kind of okay in the winter, much less okay on warm days like todays. It used to have a little tin diverter but kept falling off, so bolted it on until it came off again and is no more. Going to be getting some welding on the tongue as the jack support was a poor idea when new and finaly is giving out after 10 years of hard use. Looking for ideas to divert the exhaust somewhere else. Maybe bend a piece of conduit and weld it on? Thanks in advance.

 

Stephiedoll Is it possible to remove the muffler and turn it 90 degrees so it is aimed at the beam?

 

Yup, weld a turndown on it...or just fab up a new deflector to mig/tig weld on...simple job while it's at the weld shop...

 

Have to look at how it's attached. I would have thought it just had the standard 2 bolts and could only attach one way since I don't want it pointed at the gas tank. For some reason I would think that would be bad.

Have to see what the welder think when we take it over in the near future.

And that could very well be the case...some engines have a round almost soup can shaped muffler that just threads into the engine, like pipe...and you can sometimes use pipe fittings to change the direction the muffler discharges the exhaust on those...but I'm betting this one bolts on...

 

I hate the leg set up on my huskee as well.

 

Pull off the muffler and see if it is threaded, if so pipe it any direction you want.

 

I will look at it closer when I get out that way this weekend. Plan on a few more hours of splitting, food for the soul you know.

 

I would definitely change the direction of the muffler. Too much exhaust gases right around you.

Love the splitter and if I had known, I would have waited a year as they put the engine on the other side. This won't be that hard to correct and I wish I had kept track of the diverter that was on it. Split a ton of wood with it and it still will start on one pull.

 

I would have a headache for sure. Hope you can reroute it with some pipe.

 

Sell it and buy a year newer one.

Looks like no go to just turn the muffler. No biggie and thanks for the idea.

 

You could just stitch weld a bent piece of conduit over the current exhaust port. A bit of work trimming old bent flange off and the piece of conduit might slip on and just need a self tapping screw or one tack weld.

My other thought is just take a unibit to the side you want the exhaust and drill a hole. Then plug the old hole...I'm sure there is some epa stuff that might be bypassed.
