Dennis’s post from FB marketplace reminded me I hadn’t looked in awhile. Not that I really need anymore wood at the moment but ya know, what’s a hoarder to do. It’s a good way to relax before the afternoon nap. Lo and behold what do I see? Black Locust logs marked down from $500 to Free. My kinda deal. Make contact. They are still there. Ask when I can come pick some up? I’m ready to go now. Someone else is coming to grab them. If there’s any left they’ll let me know. Grrrrr!!! Message me 30 minutes later. Some ladies in a minivan showed up. Wanted a few sticks for a campfire I’m on it. Throw some tools in the truck and I’m off. Channeled my inner buzzsaw. No nap today baby LOL just a pic of the first biggest pile. There’s a few smaller piles but some nice big logs in them. This entire section of the state is nothing but Black Locust. Hard to drive down the road dangit. Woods been cut two years. Perfect, most of the bark stays behind. They’ll burn it in their fire pit. Got one load. I’ll get two tomorrow. Gotta go split that sugar maple in my processing area to make more room.

Very elusive in my area. 28 minute drive through the backroads. Vernon/Rockville. I don’t mind doing a little driving. For sure I thought of midwinter when they told me LOL. I knew it wasn’t her tho. If she came this far she wouldn’t have left with a few sticks. No lie Brad. Every tree in that neighborhood is Black Locust. Same area I got my first BL score from.
Absolutely. Not a fan of bark. I secretly think BL bark is fireproof. Was watching some in the firepit last week and it just won’t burn. It’s got asbestos strands in it. I’m happy to leave it behind.
Splitting up that sugar maple. Made some more work for myself. My four way gave up the ghost. I knew it was having issues,,,,only a matter of time,,,and sugar maple. Tough stuff to split. I have a different wedge design in my head. Looks like it’s going from pipe dream to welding table a little sooner than I thought
Fixing the splitter is a regular occurrence Month or two ago after I mounted the new improved pole the “shoe” cracked the welds. The part that stops the round. I call it the shoe. After I added more steel and welded it all up tight I sat back and kicked myself pretty hard. That would have been the perfect time to cut that shoe off and make it a push through splitter. Doh!! Would have cured a lot of wedge issues to have a fixed wedge. Oh well.
Go get more or take a nap and dream about getting more! Great haul Joe! The things i go through for locust. I rarely go over ten minutes from home but for that, id travel the half hour. Nice that you take the scenic route.
Ok I lied. Had my rusty dull broke toothed buzzsaw nap and decided to go get another. Small load to finish up the first pile.
