Rain ain’t stopping tonight. I got a few hours in this morning followed by intermittent periods of light drizzle to heavy rain all day
Got off at 7PM again yesterday, rain stopped for awhile. Got the first section moved into place. This one is all oak, white, I think. I do know it is HEAVY...finally got it in position, tractor could only do so much, I started out working solo. I'm having to cut the nails to re-space the boards and be able to screw the runners to the 4x4's, using #12×6" deck screws. I have never seen my impact driver not drive a screw in...had 2 that seized up, couldn't even get them to back out, after the 1st one did that, started using a little bar soap on them, that helped on all but one so far. Got a few more to take loose/space. I will use 16' decking boards to fill in gaps. Hope the weather will let me get the other panel set tonight.
Look for old above ground pools, the kind with metal walls, I got many feet for free, they're the perfect width for a pallet, and could be run across or down with an overlap for roofing
Thanks for the idea. We have done several metal roofs, have some panels left over, and one time when we went to the metal roofing plant, they had a good bit of overruns or slight misformed sheets. Got a good deal on some of that, less than $1/ft...
Worked on another project first after supper. We use these small ramps to move wood into mom's house with handtrucks (dolly). She is 93 and it is easier to get her to the car in a wheelchair, added 9" extension so she won't run off the edge. Then worked on the floor section, got the other boards spaced. Ready to tackle the next section. Will need 8 16' deck boards to fill in and complete floor.
Looking good sir! Nice that you have a level spot to set it up. Level makes life (and wood stacking) a lot easier! Cant wait to see it done. How much wood will it hold?
Yes, a level spot is best, I wish I had that where my wood shed needs to go. What spacing did you use for the boards on the shed floor?
It's pretty level L/R, but about 10-12" low F/B, at least it leans towards the back wall. Thinking of putting a door or 2 on the back. Floor size is 11x15, might go with 7-8' walls. Should hold 8-9 cords, I think.
When complete, the spacing is about 1" between boards. I need 8 16' boards to fill in the big gaps. Will be able to walk on it easily.
When I was putting down 2x4 flooring to stack wood one, I used a piece of 2x4 on edge for the spacing. That seemed to work OK for me.
I was going to use that, but since my hunny helps me stack, I went with a smaller gap. She has smaller feet than me...
Started about 8 PM, I was whooped last night by 10:30, but got the second section in place and boards spaced. Just need 9 deck boards to finish floor, then can put up post and walls. Had my little helper for a bit...he had to tote the pipe clamp for Grandaddy. Finally done for the night.
Went to the builders supply store today to get the deck boards, they were OUT of just about every deck board, waiting on truck. Salesman gave me a great price on 2x6x16 instead, so we got those, will be stronger...floor is now finished... Next step, setting post and boards to hang pallet walls on.
The boards on the skids are rough cut 1"+ oak. Deck boards would have matched, but I was using one as a spacer, when I stepped on it between runners, I could feel it bending. These will be stiffer...planning on 7-8' tall stacks in there
Looks good Jeff. Now the log pile behind it. The cans for holding down the tarp. I assume the the hook is encased in cement. And is that log pile at back or front of the deck?
