G'day Hoarders, My name is Mark and I stumbled across this site a couple of weeks ago and have been looking every day since and enjoying the content. I live in Tasmania, the little island below the big island of Australia. Tasmania is the coldest of all the Australian states. The burning season starts in March and usually ends mid November. I have two fires in the house and one in the shed, the Rayburn stove in the kitchen also has a boiler that heats domestic hot water and runs six hydronic radiators. In the summer hot water is from solar. I live on 100 acres, with 20 acres cleared and divided into paddocks, the rest is bush, so I will never run out of firewood. From what I have read so far, the goal seems to be a 3 year supply of firewood. I usually cut more than I need each year and estimate I have about 5 years supply now. I usually burn 15 square metres a year and using an online calculator to convert to the cord measurement that you guys use is 10 cords. I have 20 sqm under cover for this season, a 110 metre stacked pile and over the last couple of months I've split another big pile which I need to stack. I have attached a couple of photos of the stacked pile and the other that needs stacking. Anyway glad to be here. Cheers.
Hello and welcome, Mark. What species of wood do you have available there? It's nice to be able to have access to firewood, right there on you're own property.

Stringy Bark, White Gum, Swamp Gum, Black Peppermint, Blackwood, Myrtle, Silver Wattle are the main ones.
I will add some pictures of the stoves. We have lots of snakes, usually see about 2 dozen every year. Tiger snake, Copperhead and White lipped, all are deadly, best not to get bitten or your in real stife.

Stihl MS461 magnum 25" bar Sthil MS 311 20" bar Sthil MS180 16" bar Makita 16" bar I have a hydraulic splitter, used to split with an axe but to old for that theese days, although I sometimes spilt with an axe after going through the hydraulic splitter for smaller splits for my wife. Aussie hardwoods are pretty hard and knarly and you go nowhere real fast trying to hand split.

Welcome aboard Mark J ....I'd hate to see the snakes that come out of those stacks of wood! I get startled seeing a grass snake or milk snake in my piles.

Welcome Mark,it seems your winter starts when ours ends.How weird is that ?Your stacks show your a hoarder alright.Tell us about your winter temps.How do those snakes survive your winters ? Copperheads here are usually in the southern states here where it's warmer.
