I got less than a row and a half left to go to finish filling the woodshed. Around a cord and a half give or take. All standing dead with a m.c. less than 28%. Wanted to be done by now but didn't happen. Been splitting some by hand lately too.
It takes a lot of work and a lot of time to gather 3 years worth of wood especially if it's your only heat source. But it's always a satisfying feeling knowing you will not need gas or propane to stay warm next winter.
Pretty much all we use. Occasionally turn the electric baseboard on for a few minutes in the morning if I don't get up early. Hopefully six cords should be enough for a year when I add a baffle to the stove and burn dry wood.
Plan is coming along great. At about 6 cords c/s/s of standing dead and another cord ready for the following year. Neighbor gave me between 4 and 5 cords that has been cut a while but needs split. plus another 4 or so cords in rounds. still have a few easy standing deads to cut that are easy access. feels good to look out and see this: still have a load on my truck and 2 or more at the neighbors.
That's my middle boys favorite toy. I also have mine from when I was little. The boys race each other in them occasionally. Glad to finally have grass growing in most of the yard. I hate mowing but hate mud more.
Woodshed is finally full. Took a little longer than I would have liked but work got busy until I started training. @WeldrDave installed a baffle in the stove do you think this will help. It sits against the thimble and leaves about 5.5" across the top open.
Oh yea!!!! You just want to stop that "direct flow" to slow it down to get complete burn! Beautiful Place my friend. I would love to have a yard like that! That looks like a piece of 3/4"or 1", she's BEEFY…. I think that will help immensly, wait and see, it can't hurt!
@WeldrDave cool that's what I was hoping for. It's a piece of 3/4 that they were going to toss at work. Thanks The place is coming together both inside and out. I've taken out a half dozen tree's and still have some more to do, but at least I have grass in the backyard for the most part. @papadave I thought about it but my wife would probably have the white padded truck pick me up and give me a jacket.
WeldrDave Razo the baffle definitely seems to help. No real serious burning just some to knock the chill off. Dry wood is also more betters. Maybe just my imagination but seems like longer burn times too. Time will tell.
I would think it would be helping, better than no baffle. My old stove had a round baffle deal over the hole hanging down about 4-5 inches, that was much better than the flames going right out the top
You'll se a significant difference soon!!! early in the season… hmmmmm… Wait till you get some cooking going on, you'll see..
