It was up to 6.1" of rain in a 24 hr time. Still raining.. it's supposed to stop tomorrow around noon.

WORD From The Woods



Revelation 3:7-13

“And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write:‘The words of the holy one, the true one, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, who shuts and no one opens.

“‘I know your works. Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut. I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name. Behold, I will make those of the synagogue of Satan who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie—behold, I will make them come and bow down before your feet, and they will learn that I have loved you. Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth. I am coming soon. Hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize your crown. The one who conquers, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God. Never shall he go out of it, and I will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down from my God out of heaven, and my own new name. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. “



This message to the church in Philadelphia was a message about patient endurance in the midst of trial and persecution. The Christians in Philadelphia faced persecution from the Jewish religious leaders as well as the Roman Government. Jesus says that he knew their works and that they had kept His word and not denied His name, even though they seemed powerless against the trials they faced. Jesus promised them that He would keep them safe from the tribulations that were coming soon. From what we know about the first century in the Roman Empire, it wasn’t an easy place to stand for Christ. Often times, it was a life or death choice. At the very least, following Christ would get people blacklisted from everyone around around them, including family and friends. It wasn’t an easy stand to take, at least not in a worldly sense. But, Jesus told them that if they patiently endured to the end and held fast to what they had in Him, He would make them a pillar in the temple of God! He promise to write on them the name of God and the name of the city of God, the new Jerusalem! Jesus wasn’t talking about writing on their forehead with a magic marker, this was a way of saying that they had a a sure future to look forward to, a future in eternity with God in Heaven. These trials and tribulations that they faced in the world would soon be replaced with the glory of God forever! If these promises were true 2,000 years ago, they are still true today. We may face trials and tribulation in this world but as followers of Jesus Christ, we have the same great future to look forward to that our brothers and sisters did when this message was written. I’ve talked with a few fellow Christian loggers who feel like they’re alone in their walk. When they try to proclaim Christ to the guys they work with they are ridiculed and mocked. If we can take anything from this message to the Philadelphian believers, it’s to be patient and steadfast, keep our eyes on Jesus. Don’t back down but be bold and continue to share the good news with the guys you work with everyday. This life is short and we look forward to an eternity with God in heaven. When we remind ourselves of this reality, the trials of this life become a lot less important, and we realize that those who mock us are just as desperately in need of a savior as we are. This world is not our permanent home and this life is really a mission field!

Boy, I guess we got lucky...they were saying that we were going to get over 3" of rain yesterday, but as of last night the total was only up to a little over 1"...nice summer rain too...just kinda steady but not too heavy, and straight down...don't seem to get that type of rain much anymore...seems like its always gotta be a downpour and/or blowing around stormy

 

campinspecter firewood gathering didn't go as planned so we ended up clearing brush and branches from behind our church. We have a bush called elderberry here. It produces red berries not the purple you see back east. I didn't realize the stocks could get as big as the ones we hauled out of the bush. We figured the BTU was pretty low and the wood rots quite quickly. Weather turned out gorgeous.

It's still raining here. No idea what we're up to for totals, but it's ridiculous. I'll snap some pics of the standing water in a bit. I went to check my morel patch in the front yard and it's all soggy. There is a bit of standing water right next to that dead ash.

It's supposed to stop before noon, then just be cloudy until late afternoon, where it will supposedly going to have a few peeks of sun today. Wednesday 62 and partly sunny then getting sunny and warm each day all through the weekend. All I know is that it's rained a lot.

 

It's been insane around here with the rain. Lakes will be slow no wake, surely. At best.

 

Spoke too soon. It's raining again. Not much, but still...

It's supposed to be done with shortly.

 

I saw that on the weather channel tonight. Hope everyone is safe, still heartbreaking to loose your home...

 

News this morning showed some dam breakage and expecting some areas to be under 9' of water. UNLIKE!

 

Plan and pray

So—when you want to accomplish something significant, is it important to plan or pray? The answer, once again, is Yes. It’s another of the paradoxes of the Christian life, because there are two streams of causality that simultaneously are making things happen—you and God. Planning and prayer are like your right arm and left arm—you need and want them both: “Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans” (Proverbs 16:3).

Planning is good. You need to decide on a clear objective, count the cost, build your team, anticipate problems, get advice, work out the supply chain, communicate, accumulate resources, and set a realistic schedule. Now obviously you don’t need to be religious to do all these things. But here are the advantages of bringing God into your planning: You honor him by consulting him and his Word. You have a chance in advance to see whether your project and your operating style are in harmony with his agenda. You can check your motives to see whether you just want to make a lot of money or whether you actually want to help people.

Asking for God’s help also puts the resources of the universe on your side. When God speaks the word, anything can happen. When God speaks the word, you get twice as strong and your challenges are only half as large.

Periodical cicadas can appear in 17 or 13-year intervals and cicadas of the same life cycle are classified into different broods. This year’s emergence is classified as Brood IX and the largest quantity of the insects is expected across parts of northwestern North Carolina, southwestern Virginia and southeastern West Virginia.

 

a lil chilly this morning, I broke down and lit a fire. 65F in the house. Leaves about one more fires worth on the porch. The wife made me remove the wood bin a few days ago, I managed to avoid that last year and she dealt with it all summer begrudgingly. I WAAAAY overbuilt that thing, its a tank.

 

I've got a fire going too. There's still plenty of wood in the basement.

 

Now that the bin is out, I can just bring a wheelbarrow in with some as needed. All my shoulder wood is stacked and top covered for next year, so I'm just tapping into the leftover oak from this past winter. Just picking some of the fallen stack off the snowblower.
