I have room for about 3 cords of split wood in the racks. My "backlog" is my issue. I figure I should be atleast a year ahead with it. The problem is storing the rounds. I need a bigger yard!
I have temporarily solved that issue by leaving some logs longer (6ft+), and standing them on end. So excited of those logs are 10-12 inches in diameter. You could stack your cut rounds like that to. Makes for a smaller footprint.
Im with you. Landlord cut me off from storing wood in his and our yard. Good friend of mine lives ten minutes away and im filling up his front yard.
Too much wood is a good problem to have! Really nice looking wood racks! Did you build a wood roof on them? Did you install that insert yet?
Its an old 4lb Plumb. Bought it at a flea market for $2 bucks. Pretty sure its a beaver tooth handle.
Racks are awesome, very nice job! Well kept and organized looking! You will hit the ground running when the insert goes in by planning ahead
I just calculated my on hand supply and it came in just under 8 cords. I have enough room to stack probably 5 more cords then the problems start.
I agree, up is the only way to go. Only other solution is to split and stack where you get the wood if that is an option and only bring ready to burn wood home. That’s what you used to do until acquired the lot to the back of my house. Now I can bring home as much as the wife allows!
ok you have correctly identified the problem! You need more yard!! Now go house shopping and explain to the wife 10 acres is good 20 to 30 is better!!
One more problem you no doubt have is what kind of wood should you be getting! The reason is that all wood does not dry in the same allotted time. For sure I would not recommend you get any type of oak. Primer on Woodburning by Backwoods Savage
