You have not lived till you have to replace broken spark plugs in ford truck heads! The aftermarket tool works way better than the ford tool. Before you try the last plugs,i reccomend run a tank of fuel with high strength cleaner in it,like bg 44k,helps,as spraying anything on top of the plugs will do nothing,44k will clean from the inside.
All the plugs have come out very easy except for the socket getting lost in the wells repeatedly. The new, long socket should be here Monday which should give me enough time to get the job done. And the code was cylinder 1 misfire (can't remember the code number, 301 maybe).
If nothing else, I'm going to try to finish the drivers side-- that's the one I had to take the fuel rail off for, rather not mess with it again. Once that's back together I will see how I'm doing for time before getting the back two passenger side ones done.
Sounds like you have the #1 cylinder done( front passenger side). Hopefully that takes care of it unless you have something internal or an injector problem. My feeling is it was probably the coil. Gary
Yeah-- the plug on #1 is changed, coil packs aren't installed yet since they don't show up til tomorrow.
I just used electrical tape and taped the socket to the extension. That was after I lost the socket the first time and had to take the plug back out.
The new socket showed up today. I still ended up going with only changing the front four due to complications installing the coil packs. The bolt on cylinder #6 decided to snap for no apparent reason, and then after drilling and partially tapping the little ear that I was taping broke off. Have the coil pack held on with picture wire for now, but it is reporting an error in coil pack 6. Truck is still running better than it was. Think I am going to try to JB weld a shoulder nut to what's left of the ear.
One of the requisites in the search for a replacement truck was a pre-modular engine. I picked up a 94 F250 yesterday. Regular cab, 5.8l, 4x4, 81,000 miles. It has a few issues, like broken exhaust manifold bolts , but at least I have room to get in there and work.
So I reported wrong-- it is #7 that is reporting a coil error. #6 is the one with the broken ear, but that one seems to be doing alright. I will have a look at it tomorrow to see if I didn't get a bad connection or got a bad coil or something.
All fixed-- found that I hadn't hooked up the electrical connection to #7. Running pretty good. Now to get some oil.
Ha, I did the same thing. Went out for a drive and it was still missing. I knew right then I forgot to plug in #5, the back cylinder on the right side.
