Good morning all. Raining but staying warm!! My last day of handing out lunches in the school parking lot and looks like I might become a drowned rat before it is over. Oh well. Working on getting some pictures. Have a safe day and stay healthy.

I've been composting for years. An kitchen scraps go into a small garbage pail, to be dumped outside 2-3 times a week. The grass grows right through it, after raking out any clumps.

I empty a compost bin most every fall, only to refill with mulched leaves and perennial cutbacks. I try to turn it over 2-3 times a year. A good shovel full goes into every hole that I'm planting into. Any extra, gets broadcast over areas of the yard that starts to look tired.

With the cutting I've been doing, I'll be gathering up chips and noodles to put in.

    Seems to work for me.

Midwinter Do you raise determinate tomato plants in your planters? What kind, if you do?

This year, one sweet 100, one mountain fresh, and 5 mystery grab-bag heirlooms (a 4-pack+ a volunteer). The Bonnie tomatoes at the big-box stores looked like crap, so I went to a local farm that also sells plants. Not a big selection, but for that I would have had to drive to MA, and I wasn't doing that.

    Good morning, everyone.

I woke up breathing today. So - TGIF!

Damp, showers morning. Mid 70'S and humidity this afternoon. Yuk

I hope to get some lawn fertilizer and some pelletized lime. The yard needs some love.

Then, some grocery shopping, before potential severe weather, late this afternoon.

    Stay safe
    Stay healthy

I like Johnathan Green's Mag-i-Cal. It's spendy, but I've had great results. It works pretty fast.

We used to have a big garden. I would use grass clippings or leavesz for mulch sometimes, when we got chickens, I would put the clippings and leaves in their pen, they did the turning work and added a nice nitrogen source....got about 6" layer on the concrete slab now...

Morning all. yesterday turned out to be a beautiful day even with the forecast of rain. Same forecast for today but it looks like it is going to be nice for the morning. Looking forward to a long weekend as it is Victoria Day on Monday. We could see rain all weekend. Good sewing weekend maybe.
