Today I finished up splitting/stacking all the rounds I’ve gathered since September. I typically dump the rounds in the driveway and process as I can, depending on the weather, motivation, snow-cover, etc. I whittle away at it, splitting by hand or noodling as needed, as a way to work off my dessert habit. I wanted the pile gone so today I pulled the hydro splitter out of the shed and went to town. Feels good. All in all since a September the total is eights full cords, mostly Ash with a bit of Locust, Pine, and Oak. Today’s work was about a cord. The pic below is what I split today.

I’ll continue hunting as there is still about 2 cords empty space in the shed.

Not yet done. Red Oak blowdown ( +/- 20" DBH ) too heavy to roll on the trailer unsplit.
It was easier to split the butts than noodle them.
And some spruce to split up for the hot tub.
Black flies are flying but it's too chilly for bites yet. Ticks in the leaves and turf. It's war.
I'm trying to get all the wood done for 2 years before the biters get serious next week with temps finally supposed to be in the 60's.
Still snow not too far inland. Strange Spring.
All in all close to 10 cords stacked.

"A man's work is never done." :jaw:
Close to putting the splitter to bed. Some odd apple, oak, and finally spruce for the hot tub to finish before the black flies decide to suck.
Anyone here join the Maine "Save the Black Flies" organization ? Look it up.

Buzz Saw - Thanks and nope, not cut from my land, I’m keeping the few trees I have. Most of my wood comes from the town yard waste give back area - they put all the trees in one section and let you hack away at them with your tools of choice. So much easier than Craigslist.

Sounds like a great source if you timing is right. Is there plenty to choose from? My local compost center is a potential source for me. I have gotten some wood out of there, but its randomly dumped among brush and all different lengths/species. The company that got the new contract will let me take wood. Guy even said i could cut.

Yea selection is hit or miss. Sometimes it’s empty, other times it’s all cottonwood, sometimes it’s the mother load of primo wood. Due to Corona the place has been closed until recently, last week there was some willow, empty this week. Now that I’m 3+ years ahead I’m picky - marginal wood stays. Of that 8 cord I harvested since September 1/2 of it came from there. Probably 80% of what I’ve got the last three years has come from there.
