Red Maple?

Doesn't look much like silver. Not heavy like sugar maple.
It was free and less than 5 miles away. Most of it already bucked

 

That leaf is not a red maple unless Japanese maple

 

The leaf is maple (not red), but the bark doesnt look like any im familiar with. Nice grab though!

 

Thats only a little more than 1/3 of it. Its too wet to get the rest now.

Where does Japanese maple come in on firewood rank? Can't find much info.

 

Japanese maple is usually a small maple with purple leaves.. ornamental

 

The leaf and bark say silver maple to me. Your leaf picture looks to be a young leaf that just recently come out.

 

I concur. OP said it didn’t look right to him and I trust person looking at it IRL. Vs pictures

 

It could be silver it was just cut a few days ago and its its somewhat lightweight. The redish hue to the bark threw me off
