Is it wrong that I put the Mrs to work on mothers day? Haha. We got 90% of the front porch screened in this weekend. Just have two small sections at the far end and we're screened in finally. I ripped some cedar 2x4's to make the batten strips since the posts and rails are cedar as well.

Me and little piney did cook her a good breakfast this morning.. :flipeggs:

Nice looking job. Now, a screen door and you'll be set just before bug season! Well, it hasn't started here yet anyway!

Thank you! Yep just trying to find a "straight" screen door at lowes or depot is tough. I managed to find one good door that I used for the porch to deck door. No luck with any of the in stock doors recently

Maybe an aluminum storm door with a combo storm/screen sash?

I bought a wood framed screen door from menards years ago for the same application as yours. Probably have 10 or so years on it and it should be replaced already. There were also vinyl screen doors available; don't know if they still have them.

:hair::hair:Speaker phone mother's day phone call with my MIL. :hair::hair: She is spouting far "one side" things when she knows we are staunch "the other side" on a Happy Mother's Day call? :picard:

You might consider to speaking up and let her know that discussions about any politics is off limits with family. "Not everyone feels the same and we wouldn't want that to come between us now would we." if she keeps it up, repeat it, if she won't stop. Tell her it is time to end the conversation.

I went back today. Dragged the splitter, and my wife for a little mothers day fun lol.

As soon as I started moving the rounds I realized it wasnt cherry. As soon as I split the first round I got a whiff of wintergreen! I'll take black birch over cherry. Just wish it didnt split like cherry though. Gnarly splits, and FULL of metal. Shocked I didnt ruin a chain. Came within 1/2 on a few cuts.

That's why I sent my mom an email and an e card, and didn't call her like the oldest brother. I did converse with her via Google Hangouts though. Middle brother did the same as me.
My mom isn't good with communication. She forgets that she has 2 ears and only one mouth. She doesn't know limits and this guess beyond politics. I wish it were that simple, as all politicians can be lumped together.

I think my mom's bipolar, since I never know which person I'm going to get that day.

Ahhh, gnarly, I know you prefer straight splits! Glad you didn't hit metal. That black birch I got in Dracut had very tough bark, I had to zip it with the chainsaw before I could split it.

E restaurant gift card and E card this year too, but phone call too. All we can do is roll with it. It is what it is. 30 years of knowing who we are, 15 of which I played intermediary, we just let her roll though I still get riled if she engages me with a question and talks over me with zero intentions of even hearing my answer. That is not new either so we just listen. It is what it is and this woman raised and shaped the man I love. You know? Family. And yooperdave , despite what I said earlier we are family and love eachother, it's up to us to do right by her at her age and health, nobody else would honor her last wishes. We'll get it all right, and sorry I complained earlier. I know better and can scroll on roll on phone calls too.

Awesome day today. Restrictions lifted on visiting Mom's island so we loaded up the car and headed over there. campinspecter mowed lawn, I helped plant flowers and beans, got a report filed for Mom's library and best of all had a Zoom meeting with the rest of the family. Mom's got a Zoom library meeting on Wed. so this was good practice for her. We have had two very hot days for our area. In the mid 70s. Don't often get those temps in the summer time. Not much wind either and what wind there was, was warm.

Bath and bed for me now.

    All in your head?
    By Diana Kerr

Years ago a guy told me he had recently switched churches because at his previous church, “People knew a lot about the Bible, but their knowledge rarely left their heads.” Knowledge of God, his Word, and the gospel should not just hang out in our minds but change our hearts and our actions as well, he said.

Bob Goff, an injustice fighter, philanthropist, and author has an interesting idea about applying God’s Word to your life: Don’t just participate in Bible studies but in Bible “doings.”

I love that concept, but not because I’m advocating to stop studying God’s Word. What I’m saying is don’t stop there.

God encourages us over and over to not just read his Word and know what it says but to put it into practice. “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says” (James 1:22). This means obeying God, living out our faith, and sharing the gospel.

Jesus’ story of the wise and foolish builders in Matthew chapter 7 is interesting because he doesn’t just say knowing God’s Word is like building your life on a rock. What he says is, “Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock” (verse 24).

Let’s be real: We’re sinners who can’t do this perfectly. We’ll often fail at living out God’s Word. Thank goodness his love doesn’t depend on our actions and that his grace covers us in forgiveness, motivating us to continue on.

Interestingly I find that the screen actually adds a little something to the looks. That isn't usually the case, maybe it is because you have lighter and darker colors and that interplay can still be seen.

Easier to stack, and pack the stove with straight splits! The bark on these trees came off fairly easily.

"WORD From The Woods" Weekly Devotional
    [IMG]
    WORD From The Woods

    Revelation 3:1-6

“And to the angel of the church in Sardis write:‘The words of him who has the seven spirits of God and the seven stars.

“‘I know your works. You have the reputation of being alive, but you are dead. Wake up, and strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your works complete in the sight of my God. Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent. If you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come against you. Yet you have still a few names in Sardis, people who have not soiled their garments, and they will walk with me in white, for they are worthy. The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

The Church in Sardis had a reputation for being alive but as Christ said, they were dead. This reminds me of a religious person who, on the outside seems to have it all together spiritually, but inside they don’t have any kind of true relationship with God at all. They’re a “phony Christian,” a Christian in name only, just putting on a good show. Sadly, the churches of America are full of people just like this. We’ve all been guilty of it at times ourselves. It’s easy to fall into the temptation of putting on a good show to make people think we are a “good Christian.” But, that kind of behavior is so devastating to the cause of Christ! The world is watching us and people can spot hypocrisy from a mile away. We must be honest and real with people, we must become true devoted disciples of Jesus Christ and demonstrate the reality of Christ in us each and every day. One of the biggest things I’ve seen since starting Fellowship of Christian Loggers, is the power of honesty with the people around us. We can put on a good show and try by our own power to be perfect. But, when we mess up, the world around us will see us for the fraud we really are. We need have a true relationship with Christ and begin being changed from the inside out by the power of the Holy Spirit. Then when we do mess up, it becomes a testimony to the grace and power of God working in our life! The apostle Paul asked the question, “should we sin more so that grace may abound?” “By no means!” He said. But through our own weakness the power of God is revealed in our life! When I was a kid, I thought that our pastor must be pretty close to perfect. After all, he did work directly for God right? Pastor Del was an old timber cutter and he would come cut oversize for my dad once in a while. One day when I was about 13, Del had been sawing for us all day and it was getting dark, he had an old Ford truck that didn’t run quite right and he was under the hood working on it, more than a little frustrated……Well, I heard a series of words come out of his mouth that I never imagined a pastor of all people even knew, much less say! It might sound crazy, but that moment changed my life. Not because I learned that pastors could swear, but I realized then and there that pastor Del was a real life sinner like me. Until then, I though that all “good Christians” were pretty much perfect and I knew I never would be. When we put on a good show like those people in Sardis we actually just push the world further away, because there is no reality to a dead faith like that. I’m not saying that we need to cuss and sin to attract the world to us, that would just drag the name of Christ though the mud! We don’t want to glorify sin, but we don’t want to pretend that it doesn’t exist either. We need to be real with people. What I learned from pastor Del over the next few years was that, while he was still a sinner, Christ was alive in him and working though him, growing him all the time. I saw the reality of a faith that was alive!

God Bless and have a great week! -Terry
