When I hung my feeder on a hook from the porch roof, I had an issue. Did have a chain from hook to feeder so I could reach it. The last loop of the chair i coated that in vaseline. Haven't had an ant problem in years.
Looking back at your pic I could probably do the same for a jelly feeder.

Good afternoon all. Mother nature is not nice today. It was 22 when I got up. It is about 31. It will snow for awhile then the sun breaks out for a little while. Then it goes through the whole cycle again. Been doing that every half hour or so all day.
Filled up the feeder this morning and it is almost empty. So the feeder fights continue. It will not get filled till tomorrow. Yesterday I step out on the porch for a few minutes. Looked at the maple in the side yard. I stopped counting at 24 birds waiting for me to go back in the house so they could attack the feeder. A few were brave and came anyways.
Have a great weekend and stay safe and healthy.

Do you feed them all summer, or stop because of bears?
Cold here too, 40° and windy. Got an oak fire burning.

Normally I do feed all summer. The bear will show up early spring. Once he does I will stop feeding for 2/3 weeks. That way he will go on his merry way. After that don't seem to have an issue with him. All though there was one year that he was stopping in about once a month.

I will try the vaseline on the shepherds hook to see if that works. I may have to use my Ruger or Stephens to take care the coons if they show up again this summer.
So far I have only seen one hummer this spring.

Good morning...A very happy mothers day. It will be little different for many with all the restrictions on travel.

We are 10 degrees warmer than yesterday morning. For the first time in over 25 years I lost some plants to frost into yesterday morning. Out of 13 tomato plants I lost a Lemon Boy, Old German, Sun Gold and Cherokee Purple. All the standard red varieties came through it just fine, same with the 4 pepper plants along the south side of the shed under the overhang.

Miss July covered the strawberry boxes and beets and onions with sheets the last couple nights. We won't put the tomatoes and peppers in for a couple more weeks.

Apparently my habanero seeds were no good. Wasted 3 weeks waiting for them to sprout...

    Better safe than sorry TurboDiesel.

I have grown my garden so big that it is too much to cover anymore, so I just let nature take it's course.

Say, I remembered another trick to help with a frost or light freeze. You can spray the plants with a coating of water right before dark to protect them. It never crossed my mind before, but I remembered that citrus groves do this when cold weather is pending.

I think they use a fogger system.
    Might work.

A fog or light mist would probably be best to try. Gardening is a constant experiment, while dealing with a number of different variables each season.
