Don't forget to glue the bearings into the crankcase. Because of the 'C4' fitment spec used by Dolmar on main bearings, the interference fit on the bearings to the case is not as strong as that in a HVA or Stihl. Without the glue you run the risk of spinning a bearing in the case. Here is the process out of the latest WM I have. You can also use Loc-Tite 603 Crankcase The clutch-side and magneto-side crankcase halves can be individually replaced. They are bolted together with 6 Torx screws 1 (M5 x 30). Pinned distortion-free with 2 spiral spring pins 2 (3 x 16 mm). Always apply a dry new gasket 3(038.111.042). Cut off the excess gasket after crankcase assembly is complete. Replacing the radial ring A new radial ring puller is in progress. Fill new radial ring 5with grease and insert in crankcase with the special tool. Replacing the crankshaft Heat the crankcase clutch-side and magneto-side to 150-160°C (302-320°F). Evenly coat the external ring of the ball bearing 4 with “Loctite 601” and insert into the heated crankcase without pressure. Lubricate the big end bearing 5with two-stroke oil
Good old green LocTite. Somebody once decided to use that on a brake drum mounted to a tapered axle shaft. That was a fun day.....not.
Yes sir, and you won't have to worry about spinning the bearing, however you must plan on selling the saw before it needs another set because they are a huge pain to get out. Heat to 200°C and you still have to tap them out! Just did one! The new version of 601 is 603 which is supposed to be oil tolarent spelled 'even harder to get off'!
That stuff is tenacious. I couldn't see the loctite that was holding that drum on. Could not for the life of me figure out why I could not get it loose from the shaft, even with pullers, etc. A little heat and it released it's secret. I had a lot of g$%d*$n choice words to say when I saw the green goo on there.
So, if HittinSteel puts the 7900 he got from me up after a couple years of hard work you'll know what somebody is in for! LOL!
I look forward to running that 7900 one day. Hopefully soon. If I remember correctly, he should be coming out my way here pretty soon. Maybe he could bring his 346xp, the 7900, and his recent 046 that he acquired. As usual, great thread and great info KilliansRedLeo and Cut4fun.
