Got my 22 ton Speedco/Huskee splitter back in April or so. On the way home, the right wheel fell off due to the castle nut not being properly torqued. Well today Singetreau came to pick it up and he got two miles down the road when he found the same tire shredded. What the hell? Is this connected to the original problem? The tread looks good, all the wear is on the walls. What do you guys think happened?
Air pressure low? I doubt the wheel falling off had anything to do with the tire shredding. Most tire failures are from low pressure.
Small trailers like those and boat trailers are bad about eating wheel bearings. Just don't stand up to highway speed. Maybe take a look at them. That can cause tire wear. Often they just lock up.
Yes, I don't think they were ever properly set until disassembled, packed them with grease and reassembled.
I figured they would have to but thought maybe there was a bearing unit pressed to the rim or something?? Never know what those crafty chinese can come up with.
That sucks. Id rather put the splitter into a trailer rather than tow it. Every bump made me cringe. Good luck!
Most of those splitters aren't really made to be towed. Max speed of 40-50mph. I have towed mine a few times and I hate doing it. Can't even see it behind the truck or even tell if it's still there!
14 " tires , 3500 lb spindles and bearings , no springs only 8 psi in the tires to give things a bit of a suspension. Still eats bearings! And of course Woodwidow having fun splitting kindling!
