Post your pictures here of what you are doing this weekend instead of being at Backwoods Savage GTG the Coronavirus canceled. Cut these for the campfire that has now been delayed til tomorrow.
Did this today. Split and hauled a load of elm home today. Nearly 2/3 of a cord. There's another 2 trailer loads of elm like this. Some will need to be shortened ( asplundh arborist neighbor of my cutting buddy's) as many are 16-18", but some are 20", which is too long for my stove. I'll make a box jig like some of you smart FHC'ers have made, so I can quickly cut all to the right length. I thought about this as I saw the number that were over 18", and figured the jig will be a great idea. I won't complain at all. It should be about 2 cords. I'll add that to the 2/3 cord I have of ash and sugar maple I cut over winter and split.
Kiddo and I went trapsing around a field tonight about a mile away after a neighbor called and said she saw a cat that could be our missing feral cat we took on. Though I've called for her out there many times before the cat responded to kiddo's voice. She's home tonight after three weeks!! Dirty and skinny, recognized her garage, food bowl and heated bed instantly. Grateful.
It's a beautiful day in NH today... I've been splitting some ash this morning... but I'd rather be in Chesaning!
Present temperature is 69 and mostly sunny. Forecast to be 75 today, our warmest day yet this year. We just hit 70 a few days ago so things are really happening to make it look more like spring. What a weekend this would have been for the GTG. For those who do not know, this is the date we planned on our spring GTG this year but, like so many things, it had to be cancelled. You can see some apple blossoms starting. They will be open within a week. This is the start of one garden. You can see the peach blossoms out on this young tree. Hope we can get a bushel or more from it this year. And the peach tree. We have only one other peach but both should bear nicely this year.
Actually I do wish I was at Dennis’s, but enjoying some nice evenings on the patio with the family. Took down a flowering something tree and a 40’ pin oak yesterday. You’ll hAve to take my word for it as I didn’t grab any pics. 6 loads of brush hauled away and only a half pickup box of wood, but couple hundred bucks and a couple hours of fun with my 14 yo daughter helping. I don’t know if keeping up with the fire pit is more fun than taking pics of said fire pit.... but I like both....
You mind waving your flashlight around here in about 1/2 hour? eatonpcat is gonna need some signals on where to land...
Yep, ain’t the same... but was a beautiful day here yesterday... started around 9 am and finished around 2 pm ... added another couple of skids to the pile plus added some height. The big bases of this silver maple has fought me all the way. I stalled out my splitter twice yesterday... the grains on this thing is pretty wicked... but getting there . Can’t wait till I get to the limbs...
Few more pics from yesterday cutting up the Maple. Came back home & SS this Elm. Calling The Wood Wolverine. See Jason, Elm ain't all nasty stuff. Gotta finish the Cherry today.
Yeah, I believe you guys when you say that... Never found one that wasn't an arsehole. That’s a big ol maple!! Here’s my weekend activities. Moved some oak to make room for fresh splits. And had a lil fire in the evening. Enjoyed s’mores with my daughter.
