I scrounge this wood at the transfer station this morning. From a distance I thought it was ash, once I got near it I realized it wasn’t. It did split pretty easily. It looks like slippery elm but the bark seems different. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
First pic looks like Ash to me2nd and 3rd look like locust or mulberry, maybe red elm, with beech on the ground underneath in the 2nd pic 4th pic is just firewood Lol
CATALPA! Just scrounged some myself earlier this week along i91. Has a sassafrasy texture and feel to it IMO. Good SS wood Bark on it does remind me of elm. EDIT: log on far right standing up is Eastern red cedar.
Brad: Are they cutting on 91 down your way? A year or so ago they cut allot near 91/RT 9,I will agree Catalpa, looks just like what you. Bark is not like the red elm I had in the past.
This was on the get on ramp i91 South in Cromwell Route 372. Ive noticed cutting by the Middltown and Wallingford rest areas. I live off exit 12. Purely by coincidence i scrounged what turned out to be dead barkless catalpa last month as well. Some splits from the deadwood. Mystree Dead Wood? Heading out to the Highway Are the two threads
