You're getting much more aggressive loading that Rav. Nice load!

I'll admit it, Molly has a heavier sledge than me.

I don't think you could've fit another splinter in that car Midwinter ! Sorry about the sledge, thank goodness it happened at the end. Is it me or was that a very narrow handle? Maybe it's just the proportions on that log. For instance that first picture at the pick up site looks deceptively smaller in wood volume than the impressive pile you wound up with in your driveway.
That was some big wood for sure! What's your secret Molly.... Wheaties for breakfast?

I pushed it, that's for sure. But the ash was lighter than oak.
It was a normal handle. I got it at Tractor Supply a few years ago, nothing special. It was getting frayed behind the head of the sledge, so I taped it. Didn't survive that last overstrike. I'm just glad it waited until the last round!

Not Wheaties, I pop a little red sudaphed on big wood days! Keeps me "cranked"!

Picked up some windfall or ant fall red maple around the block. I’m hoping if I get it split soon enough, it’ll be ready by next spring. 38AA1042-FE29-4F36-A79F-FD3CB798217B.jpeg

I finished up splitting the ash... no matter how tight I stuff the RAV4, a quarter cord is all I bring home. IMG_20200503_40566.jpg

Looks like nice work to me Midwinter . I think I can get about 1/6 a cord in the trunk of my accord. Well, really it is a corolla. Here are two loads of the red maple.. look like a face cord? 5619C00C-EC48-4B78-BDA9-A749DBB05398.jpeg

A third of a cord, I think so! Get it off the front lawn, someone will think it's free!

mrfancyplants Nice looking pile. I would say it's just shy of a face cord. great for two small trunk loads especially a Corolla!

If that new split stack was all from one load, that is very impressive! I think with my extra trailer crate I can get only just a little more than that, but if I was driving long distances on main highways the way you often do I don't think would take anymore than you have there. I always assume my full loads to be 1/4 cords and I am impressed that I do that with basically a station wagon and some extra luggage storage. It's the weight that also limit's me as far as cramming in the loads I feel it when I drive especially the wet heavy stuff. With the RAV4 you have a little more heavy duty suspension which is good, but a Ford flex is rather low to he ground and not very robust. I love it for regular driving though because its like an SUV, but drives like a car. When it goes I think my next vehicle with be a Tacoma pick-up truck. seems like a good compromise.

By the way I love the contrasting new wood stack with your seasoning background wood!

I have not posted in a while because I have only been getting small hauls that are just not worthy of posting. They add up and that's how I get my cordage for the year, but it would be like posting pictures of my shoes tied or my morning cup of coffee. You guys don't need to see that haha. I did get my yard space cleaned up a bit and ready for more wood. I have been bucking and splitting up the "procrastination pile". I'm finding I enjoy the hunt and the thrill of getting the wood to my property, but then once I have it I guess the thrill is gone and I start to let things pile up:tree::stacker: :woodsign: then my yard pile becomes a bit of an eye-sore:heidi:
Problem for me is there is a lot of pressure in my location to get any wood you see as it will not be there for very long, usually not for more than a day and I've got burnt so many times by not scooping it up as soon as I see it :headbang:. So when I should be:axe:instead I decide to go scouting for more before it's gone. :vulture:

No, I have been putting that off since it's black locust and I know it is not going to rot and is also guaranteed to be there waiting since only a crazy person would attempt to go through the trouble. No BuZZsaw Brads in this area that I need to worry about haha! It wasn't an easy score, so as long as I can get other wood I will keep that location as my desperate times hunting grounds

I can fill the whole interior space of the RAV if the wood is light to average weight, but if I'm loading oak or locust, only about up to the windows.
I've been lucky lately, to find wood close to home. My yard is so stuffed right now, going on a scrounge is really just for my mental health. I wish some of my husband's friends, who we've offered free wood to, would come and take some. That would free up some stack space. You know how it goes, they won't show up until October.
Might not be a bad timeframe for truck shopping!

LOL I'm still not sure who helped who more last year when you gave me 2+ cords of wood!
