Just the other day I had a guy who is an acquaintance contact me about cutting some trees down on his property. He lives 5 minutes away and says come on over to take a look. We go back to his woods which is easily accessible by a gravel drive where he shows me roughly 3 acres of oak woods he wants gone for a horse pasture. He has a company coming in about a month to do the clearing but says I can have any and as many of the trees I want. He also said to leave the brush where it falls and asks to leave the stumps 2’-3’ high. I put in an hour and 45 minutes last night dropping, limboing and cutting up 7 oak trees ranging from 12” to 16” in diameter. He also has a road that goes down the middle of the woods so I will be able to get my truck right next to any tree I drop. All of these trees are great size- nothing big! I’m hoping I have the time to get 20 cords if not more out of here.

Sweet. Hopefully timing will work out for you.

Any way to stack logs on site and out of his way?

    Very nice!

Especially not having to worry about the brush...… brings nice to a whole different level!

Not really but that’s ok. It’s ultimately quicker to cut right where it is

He will have a skid steer on site starting Thursday but my truck isn’t really set up to haul large loads of logs. I don’t know, maybe I will cut some to 12’ and have him load. Time will tell

Sounds like you made probably the best deal with him that could have happened. Best of luck to you both!

Access to pretty much unlimited wood with only so much time to get it will make a guy do crazy things! That being said, make sure to get some loaded truck pics so we can all see to what ends you are willing to go in your hoarding frenzy!  Hopefully it’s not too far from your place. Good luck to you:yes:

What about renting a hall trailer. Check out TSC. We discovered they rent trailers also. Congrats on the score.

It’s 5 minutes from my house and about 12-15 minutes from my moms farm where I process and sell from.

Would need to be heavy duty and I would have to be able to unload them with the tractor forks.

Great deal. Is there any way to cut the logs and have them stacked somewhere close to get to later?
If so it would almost be worth moving the tractor over there.

He’s looking to start popping stumps and leveling the ground real soon so probably not but he did drop off his skid steer this afternoon and showed me how to use it. Probably will use to to lift logs while I cut them.

So I put in about 3 hours and 45 minutes today so I have 5.5 hours in so far. Here is load number one. It’s a full two cords. I have a total of 17 trees on the ground so far, think only 3 left to limb and one that is limbed just needs to be cut up.

Home Depot rents dump trailers if you think the logistics of it would pay off.
Whack a bunch of logs now. Then rent the trailer and start shuffling them out when you think time is getting near.
