I have been a long term diet soda drinker and, well, I have been finding my appetite to be damm near uncontrollable lately. I am currently trying to make the switch back to regular soda to see if it makes a difference (I think it is). I currently have a Mountain Dew Throwback on ice and like the fact that it is made with sugar instead of corn syrup. In fact, I bought 3 different kinds of Pepsi-Co sodas and they are all made with real sugar. Does anyone have opinions on soda?

I rarely drink POP but when I do it is the old throwback types. Strange mixes that come in the glass bottles.

I miss glass bottles being the golden standard. Had a squirt out of one a while back when I first started making the switch back to regular. Had a coke out of glass today. Only thing that bugs me is the old glass bottles were 16 oz and these Mexican supplied ones are only 12.

It would be in everyones best interest mine included to cut sodas out completely but thats not likely. I struggle with them myself not as much as my wife does though. What we have done is stopped bringing them into the house and when we go to a restaurant we will almost always get water sometimes we will share a coke. My wife likes the bubbles so she has been getting sparkling water for to have in the house and she adds that water flavor stuff and sometimes rum or something. Today we had a coke at lunch and then stopped at the store on the way home and both got a soda and it made me sick. My mother drank diet pepsi for as long as I can remember I actually dont remember her ever having something to drink other than diet pepsi from the time I was a little kid. She would try to stop drinking them and she couldnt she was addicted to them. Last year she got the stomach bypass surgery done (she was seriously over-weight) The doctor told her that she cant drink carbonated beverages after having this procedure so she was forced to quit and she says it was the best thing that happened to her she didnt realize how bad she felt.

Oh and my wifes stepmom has one of those soda stream things it works pretty good and tastes pretty darn close to the same thing. I dont know if its any healthier than regular sodas but it does save money I think.

You can use the soda stream and add any other liquid drink to it, like cranberry, apple or orange juice with their own natural sweeteners or add a natural low cal sweetener like stevia. Stevia doesn't mess up the acid base of your blood or tell your brain it hasn't had anything like sweet and low, Splenda or equal does. Small wonder why you are still hungry after a diet soda. There is also a connection between those who drink soda having less calcium absorption than those who infrequently drink soda. The reason is mostly that they avoid other drinks that are more rich in calcium. ESP. a problem as we age.

I read that the soda drinks destroys the calcium absorption and the corn syrup they use to sweeten drinks really raises havoc with your blood sugar and insulin processes which in turn stores more to fat than what you realize. Especially the zero calorie drinks. I haven't had any pop for a while and the other day was given one. Found it very sweet and burpy after my Wild Orange tea that never has sugar.

Nothing like homemade root beer though.

Corn syrup is also attributed to hangovers. My father in law used to drink rum and coke like it was going out of style and started getting terrible two day hangovers. Someone told him it was the corn syrup in the coke he said it was just cause hes getting old. To be scientific though he didnt change his drinking habit only replaced coke for juice or water with that flavor add stuff and boom no more 2-3 day hangovers. Now he still has a rum and coke occasionally but not like he used to and yes hangovers happen but not like last year when he drank nothing but rum and coke.

I do like me some Mountain Dew Throwback, especially in glass. Hard to find around here.

Lots of local/regional bottlers putting out sodas made with sugar, not corn syrup. I like those too when I can get 'em. The corn syrup stuff ain't good for you and the diet/zero formulas are worse. I'm certainly guilty of drinking a little too much soda, especially over the summer months.

I think you posted in the wrong place.. smokehouse?

Nothing wrong with a soda or two once in a while, but as with most things... moderation.

I've read of some folks drinking 2-3 2 liter jugs of soda per day.

I can't tell a different in taste between sugar sodas or corn syrup. Either are way too sweet for my liking.

Smoke house seemed like the best place-- it's where on would post about beer or wine, why not soda?

Grizz, good post. Like some members talk about, food posts are great and soda is part of the food eating experience.
I don't drink soda much anymore. I don't have a craving for it, I don't even have it in the house anymore. I think taking that out of my diet completely was one of the best things I could have done. My body feels better for it.
I do cave in and enjoy certain foods occasionally but don't reach for the diet coke while having it. The sugar cleanse I did a couple months back totally got me off it.

I stopped having soda three years ago. I was having what felt like heart palpitations that were very uncomfortable so I just stopped. Unlike something like smoking, soda is a habit. Much easier to stop. I go for ice tea now. Non sweet, and not bottled stuff. I got use to it. No more gas or stomach upset from the soda. I was drinking the diet soda which I now think is even worse for me. Odd to me but most all my grandchildren go for bottled water when we have family gatherings. The adults prefer beer, wine, and bottled water.

Yep, mostly for cooking food with wood. I think there is a description,'but it doesn't show up on the mobile version. Drink is an extension of food, so this is the best place for this thread. Not everything fits perfectly into the boxes we have laid out, sometimes you just have to pick the closest option.
