Got out on Friday and cut a few more Euchs down and bucked them up. Headed over today to load the rounds up and get them home. Nice to get out.
Headed down and grabbed the wood we cut up on Friday. There was more than I though which is always good. Probably a good half cord or a bit more.
It's high up on the BTU charts. Pretty popular in much of California. Not as popular as oak, which most want to burn in the areas I have lived.
How does that split and do you use hydraulics on it. If I remember right it was not easy splitting by hand. Those trees sure can get tall.
Only thing I know about Eucalyptus is the ex liked to make splays with the little branches. Then when it got hot and humid they’d drip down the walls. Purple if I remember right
Went back to the Eucalyptus honey hole on Monday and yesterday. Monday was to cut down the big leaners. Had some help from a friend that has more experience with this. Get a couple of them rigged and dropped them away from the shop. All went well. Yesterday was to get logs bucked up and hauled. Here are a few photos.
These are the logs I hauled from the trees in the above pics. Almost two full loads in the dump trailer. And I have three more trees on the ground there to buck up and haul.
Those trees look like they are pretty tall. The other thing I remember is that eucalyptus sure has a distinctive smell.
Most of those trees were 30-50 tall I would say. I've been told there are over 200 different types of eucalyptus trees. Most of these that I'm cutting don't have much smell. But I have run into a few that do smell.
Does Sycamore grow here? Not sure, but I haven't had anyone talk about it. Euch doesn't split too good. Most of the time it's rear stringy.
