    Good morning, people.

No wooding today. Ground too wet.

So, I think I'll move the snowblower into summer storage and bring up the lawnmower. Maybe change the oil, pop off the blade and run a file over it. We'll see.

It's another chilly morning, 32°, staying in the 40's all day. No 60's in the 10-day at all. Brrr! Still burning wood for awhile longer.
I have 4 more big catalpa rounds left to butcher. That will warm me up outside. I think I'll buy some more 2x4's for a new wood rack as well. I still have a backlog of rounds to split, I'll get them done before it gets hot.
I've been feeding a new possum. I put some food out at twilight, and it's gone pretty quick, before I go to bed. I saw him once, lumbering away. My husband ordered a trailcam, to verify that it's not a raccoon or cat that's eating the food.
The reality is setting in that this way of life is going to continue for a long time. Thank God for firewood!
    Have a happy day all.

images.jpg Morning folks, woke up to 20 degrees and a stiff NW wind that blew all night. Birds all puffed up at the feeders. Might get daring and venture out later to pick up some lawn fertilizer. We are supposed to get rain on Sunday, so I want to have it done before that happens. Everyone have a great and safe day.

Yup. And the plan came nicely together.

Drained the oil, put in new oil.

Took off the blade and passed a file over it.

Put in some fresh gas. I ran it dry before putting it away for the winter.

Gave it a few slow pulls before one good pull and it started right up. Always puts a smile on my face.

I siphoned what I could out of the snowblower. It's ethanol free. I locked it into my storage building, leaving it running to run dry. Maybe kill off a few mice with the carbon monoxide.

Time for a shower then into my bio suit to do some grocery shopping.

After that, time for a pulled pork lunch, wadhing it down with beer, then probably a nap. Living the dream in these crazy covid times.

Good morning everyone. Started in the 20s but going to 35. Must be getting there as I see water dripping off of the roof. Snow is on the air and had a good dusting last night.
Pretty sure I seen some gold finches on the feeder. The feeder hangs off of the roof so it is in the shadows which makes it hard to see colors. The like to mob the feeder and was seeing that earlier.

We get sparrows and house finches at the feeder during the winter, but the only time we see goldfinches is in late summer/ fall, when they come to eat the catnip seeds.

We have had a steady diet of goldfinches all winter. The males are now a bright yellow. As well, we have had song sparrows for the last two weeks, and for the first time this morning purple finches. Love watching those birds.

    Good morning, everyone.

Nice cool morning, clear. Perfect for shoveling compost. Time to rotate the stuff from one bin to another, turning it over.

Then, I need to take my dad for an eye appointment. He's legally blind as he deals with macula degeneration. I have a dust mask for him to wear. I hope he takes things seriously. He's 91.
