Well we remodeled our entire upstairs two years ago (except for these two bathrooms) and I have been wanting to knock them out for awhile. one bathroom vanity was shot and needed replaced and the other one I went ahead an re-purposed it. So while working on the table I have started this project and have been working on during down times on the table. The first bathroom went really well with not plumbing issues. The only thing that was a total pain in the butt was scraping off the linoleum backing from the sub floor. Tore everything out, scraped the floors, did a bunch of drywall work, repainted, put down new flooring (vinyl plank), new vanity new light new mirror. Results After Remodel
Second Bathroom did not go nearly as well! floor came up about the same however I did learn a heat gun makes linoleum backing come up way easier! All the shut offs leaked and none of them had enough stubbed out to reattach to so cutting out the wall was a necessity. Also they previous owner had trashed this bathroom and we painted over the mess when we moved in. The previous owner had thrown handfuls of paint all over the walls and their were multicolored globs everywhere so I decided to try to clean the mess up some. Spent 3.5 hours power sanding the walls with 80, 120, and 220 grit paper to knock down the paint globs. Got most of it off and repainted only to have all the paint blister and peel wherever the old paint globs were so I went back to square one and re-sanded all the walls and then painted with an oil based Kilz paint which fixed that issue. Sanded down the old vanity and mirror and repainted them, put down new floors and reinstalled everything. Tear Out Getting my daughter in on the work Paint Mess Final Result
Both bathrooms came out awesome! Having your daughter help was great, she’ll always remember that. Good for you on updating those bathrooms, are you a rehab addict now?
I never stop rehabbing this house lol. Two years ago I completely gutted the entire upstairs. Last year I put a big addition and roof on the deck. I just finished putting the J Channel and brick mold on my wood door going to the hearth this evening. I just need nice white outdoor screws to finish it up now.
They gotta learn somehow and no better time than right now especially since there are no sports eating up time.
Your baths look really nice. I had to remove 2 layers of stickum tiles, and one layer of linoleum. Found out AFTER I had struggled with all removal that heat would have helped a lot
