Not lazy, just the fact you have the tractor to save you labor and it does. I watched you over the months and you have it down to a science the way you process wood.

Elm. All day. let it dry out to the point where the bark is falling off, and you won’t have any trouble splitting it. When it’s green, it’s stringy. Seasoned and it’s no problem. I probably burn 2-3 cords of elm a year. It’s very good firewood, in my opinion.
Love the moss! Maybe not dealing with it while trying to cut up the tree though. Something us northerners don’t see up here! Good sized tree...can you get it in one load? Looks like some nice wood. I’d get it especially if it helped a friend, and you get some great wood too!

Someday when you feel like tinkering instead of chopping consider putting a winch on that trailer. Can leave the tractor at home Good score. PS. We all know you were going to get it and help your friend anyway
I like your design, I've thought about it, but a lot of my scores I can't get the trailer too, have to have a way to skid them out. Yep, y'all convinced to go get it... I have a little case of CAD and a bad case of WAD...
Good luck. Splits hard dry or wet in my opinion, at least the big ones. My parents had a huge one that died around 4 fat in diameter..... noodle noodle noodle, hydraulic splitter, noodle noodle. Burns okay, but that one was a ton of work.
Well, we got the elm tree cleaned up, hauled almost a trailer load home. Took about 3 hrs total. It wasn't as big as it looked in the picture, main trunk was short and had a good bit of rot. Probably could have gotten some more of the smaller limbs, but that tree was wrapped up in Spanish moss. Be very thankful y'all don't have it up north. It's pretty on the trees, but h**l on the ground and a saw. My friend said it will choke down a lawn mower. I found out its nature's chain break 4 or 5 times. I think that's where the idea for Kevlar strands in saw chaps came from. If the saw ever caught a loose clump... Glad we could help my coworker out, definitely a learning experience...lol
Definitely looks like some nasty stuff to cut through. Nice wood though. Reminds me of the time I thought I could cut through a thick rope with a radial armsaw Doh!!
