I scrounged some wood at the dump today and grabbed this. Cant figure out what it is. Grain texture and density equivalent of black locust. Only piece i saw. Split it when i got home. The end of the dead limb attached to it had the same reddish heartwood. What is this?
OMG - Wood at dumps is not safe from Brad!! Lookout Midwinter, he'll be sneaking around under the cover of darkness. The dump wood ninja. Oh, I have no idea what that wood is.
Funny you say that as i thought of her while i as climbing around the piles of brush...new thread to be posted shortly.
I was saying the same thing but have never cut or seen any in person and going by what ive seen on here. Too bad only one piece but did get some BL and mulberry.
You wouldve been proud of me climbing around the piles. The new company that got the contract last Fall lets me scrounge.
Honey Locust. All day. I’ve got about a cord and half of it stacked on my property. I find a fair amount of it in Denver. It’s incredible wood. SUPER dense. It’s a bit hard to get started because it is so dense, but it’ll burn all night if you toss a chunk on before bed. It does take quite a while to season though. I typically let it season for 2 years before I burn it.
How does your isocore like it? Mine bounced, so I hydraulically split and even that was rough. Several stalls on my big splitter.
