Looks like a well kept woods! Good day to be out there. I love burning beech. Splitting not so much! Do you have a lot of the beech in the woods?
It's scattered allover our property but this area has the most compared to any other I worked. I did fell another three beech today but didn't split any of it, I told the wife that I would help out making some Braciole this afternoon which we just finished.
We had beech that we had planned on burning the winter of 2020 but it was warm enough we didn't burn any. I'm hoping with the three beech I felled today, we'll have three face cord. I'll be splitting and then hauling the beech down to the truck with the utility trailer and then home for stacking, we plan on burning the beech in the winter of 2022.
Sounds like behind my in laws. I always end up with a little bit each year from big limbs and what not, but got a large blowdown this past year that yielded at least a couple cord. I have the top all cleaned up and just need to go back and buck up the trunk. Great firewood though!
Sorry to see that damage to those trees, didn't know porcupines did that. We don't have them here at least in city limits. Beech is my favorite wood so maybe the porcupines agree?
Yes, all these had that and one the porcupine girdled years back, I finally shot a pine in the winter that was eating up in a Hemlock. The fisher finally found the pine and had a nice meal. It was on the hill where I've been dropping the Ash. The Fisher: Elusive, Fast and a Porcupine’s Worst Nightmare | The Outside Story
It looks that way but just like any other woods, we have our areas that are just a wreck with rotten stuff down.
After getting that red cat, why would you still be chasing? I hear the red cat is a good shot, you should've never taught that young red cat how to shoot.
The plan for today was getting a 16 foot long area ready for some ash and clean up another area that the beech will go but we received between 2 to 3 inches of snow with some steady winds today so we'll get that done early tomorrow.
Fortunately we did not get that much but still got too much. Most of it has melted now and is going fast as we are at 35 degrees.
