snake story when I got nailed early 70's , Wyoming on Horse back - hunting trip, crossing dry-wash / gulch . The rancher was ahead of me a short distance his horse knocked some loose rocks around, buzzing sound,my horse shied stumbled on loose footing and went down of course tossing me in the process, unfortunately my landing area was not a good place to be and the Diamond Back lashed out, clipped me on front of left leg just at the edge of the snake boots one fang got me other deflected by boot . Hour back to line shack where we were met by emergency crew. Not a newb on horse back just one of those things. Got a nice Muley buck the next year same ranch same horse about a 100 yards from the area where the incident took place. Whole incident likely around 15 seconds- recovery time not so quick though.
Glad you made it! I have had several close calls but never been bit. Probably not a rewarding experience!
Had to pull a rubber tarp off a pile this morning to sell to a guy. At first I thought it was a mouse curled up till I prodded it with a stick. He was a little sluggish due to the cold temps. Hope he wasn't a corona bat.
Cool! Ive run into them many times on the roof. Ive been told i scream like a girl! Not afraid just that they scare the chit out of me when youre not expecting it. One time it was three and it was November. They were very sluggish as you say.
The only time I have been thrown off a horse was when it came up on a rattle snake just right down the road from my house. That horse threw me off so fast and he was gone on a dead run.
Next one that gets in house I can ship to you.. Pretty easy to catch throw a box over it. Slide piece cardboard bigger than box over top..
My in laws used to have rental property. The house next us once or twice a year would get a bat. So I got the call. Would open up the front door then set a "path" so the bat would fly out. Heck as kids up at the lake we would take fishing poles and tie a tear drop sinker on and cast it up.in the air and the bats would grab it then let go of it. Lol
funny you posted this. I was outside at dusk and saw two bats flying around. Cant say ive ever seen them his early that i recall.
I agree. They are great little critters. They eat hundreds of mosquitos in a single night. We don’t have too many bats at my elevation. Fortunately, we don’t have too many mosquitos at my elevation either
If you want more bats, put up a bat house, they're easy to build and there are tons of plans for them on the internet. They are very beneficial to have around as Cash mentioned. Most of the bats that are around, you very seldom see. Kinda like flying squirrels, they're around, but they're only out at night while we're catching zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Problem in my imediate area is the wind turbines, birds do not have a problem with them but the bats do.
I didn't know that. I found lots of interesting reading on the subject. We have no wind farms in our immediate area and I was thinking about a small wind turbine. One of our neighbors got one a few years ago and gave up on it after high maintenance costs over a couple years proved it to be more expensive that what it generated. He put in an outdoor wood burner and the wind turbine sits dormant. It was a fairly good sized one for a residential install, 25 or 30kVA or so. They have a 60' by 120' shop out back that they heat. That has pretty well soured the residential wind turbine market around here. A lot of folks drive by there and see a wind turbine feathered and locked... bummer.
Found three of these little guys while splitting this morning. Hiding in my rounds pile. Beautiful coloring! Time for a new pair of gloves
