Should we make a concerted effort to NOT buy from China?

I'll say that they have gotten better about environmental rules over the years though. They had no choice. Previously there was literally no regard to the environment.

Oh it has. I used to work for a company that makes Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers, RTO's. These clean air or soil to get rid of Volatile Organic Compounds ( VOC's). China was a pretty big customer, and this was back in 2008.

RTO's are on pretty much every plant to scrub VOCs, like paint fumes, from process air before allowing it back into the environment.

I like and use German made Wera and made in the USA Klein tools.

Sometimes you need to do the little extra research when looking for an item. I needed a cheap set of scope rings last year and when researching two different sets of rings from the same company, I found one set was made in China and the other set was "proudly made to exact tolerances in the U.S.A." for just a few dollars more. Guess which ones I bought.

I think WERA moved its production to the Czech Republic which i .... anyway quality is still good.
Management these days looks at numbers not heritage, tradition, pride etc etc.
Wiha makes still tools in germany, so does Knippex, Gedore, Ideal, Festtools, Fein, Bosch has a few powertools made in germany.
Picard makes great hammers and theres alot smaller forges who are makin excellent hammerforged spades.
Most Semi/Pro Dolmar saws are build in Hamburg-Jenfeld/Germany... while the others are made in PRC.
I was so pizzed that i got me an husquarna instead... Made in Sweden or should i say assembled in Sweden?
And theres STIHL of course. Pferd makes great files/rasps and sharpeners as we all know.
Over the last decades alot of stuff got moved overseas maybe not as bad as in other places.

Theres still some left of the glory but not as grand as it used to be.

The American market has been inundated with Chinese products for years. It's easy enough to avoid Harbor Freight and look for domestic products exclusively, but some domestically sourced products are hard to find or justify the cost of. This has been an ongoing effort that began in the early 90s with UN Agenda 21. Basically it was collectively agreed upon for the developed world to outsource vast quantities of jobs and products to the developing world. So in the name of collectivism, we all sold out. China has seen vast expansion of their economy in the last couple decades, and I do think it's time for the tide to turn. There has to be a balance struck between collectivism and looking out for your own people.

    Sold out is right!
But now is the time to bring it back. I see a large swing in manufacturing coming soon. Americans are resilient...at least the ones in the fly-over states. :handshake:

Don't blame CHINA they are only filling the orders from AMERICAN businesses that want to give the executives multi million dollar compensation packages. The same Chinese products sold outside the US sell for a fraction of the US price.

It might help to ask store managers to put a "made in USA" flag sticker on those items that are make here. Tell them you are shopping, but want to stick with USA made items. It can be made to happen. It did with pet food treats etc. Some chains only sell USA pet food and products.

These days their environmental efforts focus on protecting the rich people living in the cities. They push the pollution to certain places and citizens they don’t like. Mongolia for example.

In any case I try to spend my money on truly durable goods, avoid needless packaging that isn’t recyclable or biodegradable, and buy American or another 1st world country where the option exists. So basically if I avoid buying cheap crap, I avoid a lot of Chinese goods by nature.

I did my part and bought two sets of sheets from “Crackhead to CEO” mike lindel.
    Plus two my pillows.
We needed new sheets, it was these or Boll and Branch- which I could not confirm made in USA.
Also bought an MSD box for the Jeep- made in USA.
I’ll do my part to support Murica
