Should we make a concerted effort to NOT buy from China?

I have thought about the amount of huge, plastic toys that kids get! I bet a 1/4 of the garbage in landfills is the plastic crap we give our kids. 100 years ago a kid would be happy with one small toy and an orange for Christmas!

 

if we could start to make more products here it would be fantastic but the other problem is labor and if the jobs are union forget it ,there needs to be a fair wage but not crooked union rates

 

we do give them to much but they should be donated or given away i see the same thing and it is a shame to waste so much

 

Yes, that’s a tough one! We are to the point that machines can do a lot of the work lowering the labor rate. We should be able to make certain items here cheaper and better!

You took the words right out of my mouth. Why in the world does everyone think they have to run to Walmart or the Dollar Store every other day or everyday for that matter to buy more Chinese crap they don’t really need???? I sometimes wonder if the good Lord blesses us with an abundance of what we need & we turn that into a curse. I know so many who are so unhappy with the disorganization of they’re basement, garage, or shop because it’s filled with so much crap they can’t find what they need when they’re in the middle of a project even though they know they have it somewhere. Nothing frustrates me more then knowing I have something I need to finish a simple task & not being able to lay my hands on it. I truly believe a large part of the unhappiness in our world today is caused by this. We have all we need but we think we need more because someone. Other countries watch us & think we’re happier/ better off then they are which isn’t necessarily always true & then strive for the same things we have. We aren’t even grateful (myself included) for all we’ve been blessed with. A lot of people in poorer countries then us live a MUCH more satisfying life then us because they are so thankful for the little they have & feel blessed to have it because they know what it’s like to less or nothing at all. Please don’t take this the wrong way, I know they’re are plenty of hurting families right here in our own country, unfortunately most of us just have a different mindset believing we’re entitled to everything we want. Just my humble opinion of course. Sorry to be so long winded but this stuff troubles my soul deeply. Everybody’s worried about the environment but we’ll keep wasting valuable resources to make crap we don’t need & then throw it in the ever growing landfill. Sorry again for being so long winded.

 

We don't have kids, but there's a little store downtown in the town I live in that sells only USA made toys. Any time we buy a friend's kid a toy, it's been from that shop. I felt good at the time for doing this year's ago already, and now I only feel even better about doing this.

 

I’m sure most of the powers that be like it this way because it keeps they’re pockets well lined but at what cost to future children, grandchildren, who have to live on this planet that we are slowly turning into a polluted garbage pile. I / we must indeed sadden our creator.

 

More people should think like you.

Incidentally they belonged to my father & we’re still using them. Isn’t that more environmentally logical?

What I can't understand is how decorating for holidays has exploded. Marketing has pushed so much unnecessary crap front and center, and people in general just gotta have it. When the holiday is over, toss it away.

If anything, this virus should make us realize some of the things we actually don't need in our lives.

Its apparently human nature to want a little more. Once we are taught to appreciate our things and be content, then we find we don't need more.

I believe it's safe to say, if we don't have God, we'll never be content.
