Two years ago when we were starting to get ready for the get-together, Chvymn99 came early and we planned on working all that day finalizing plans and getting stuff around. I remember finding this chunk of ice so we had to get a picture. This was on 4/18/2018. Fortunately, the snow melted that day.
No it’s not unusual Dennis . I sure wish we could have had more of the mid 20’s for lows back in March . Would’ve helped with the sap run .
I hear ya Dennis. Here in Wyoming some of the months with the highest snow fall can be March and April. Today we are getting around 8" or more. Not unusual. Although I am ready for some warm weather and getting back out side.
We're at almost 2' here, 14" early this morning and snowed pretty hard for a few more hours, down to light flakes here now. Heard we have more coming though the weather site I looked at changed it to very little.
Last pic she gave up and came back, sweet ol' girl tried First pic is the bike seat on kiddo's bike infront of the patio furniture. Planter in background (round pink tire) is 2' high.
Yep you sure looks like you got your share of the snow. What happened to April showers. I know it got cold.
For sure Dennis, Wasn't too many years back when we had the worse ice storm in decades. when we got up in the morning and went outside everything looked like a crystal palace 1/4" of ice covered everything. You could hear the tree branches cracking and crashing to the ground. Power lines were down here for 4 days. Roads were a skating rink. If your vehicle was outside you had to chisle your way in. Yeah, April can be tricky.
"Big difference between the first day of Springt, and the first spring day." Repeat--olde Maine saying. Possible more snow tomorrow. Oh s_-t.
You’re right, Backwoods Savage! Not that you needed me to tell you that I think it was in the projects during the stay at home order, where I said that it seems I usually end up turkey hunting at least once a year on some sort of snow. It’ll be over when it’s over
That's for sure. Making maple syrup is so much different now than it was back, say, in the 50's. I remember several times gathering sap and wading through deep snow to get the buckets. Even got stuck a few times with the old Ford. I also not so fondly remember after a snowfall having to go around and dump buckets.
One thing for sure is that you can't see so far when it is snowing. That appears to have been a pretty good snow for many with this recent storm. Well, 8" is not a small storm but I'm happy it is not coming here. They are getting some south of us now but only a few flurries at times here.
Tim, do you remember the ice storm that hit southern MI back in 76? But I think that was in March. That is the worst one I've ever seen and I was in a motel in Fremont; couldn't get back north to get home. I know of one business in Marlette that was out of power for almost a month.
I'm going out on a limb here and saying this is the last of it for this year. Oh, we might see a flurry or three but I do not expect to see the ground white again until November or December.
There will be another round of accumulating snow today. Unlike yesterday, this will be a synoptic system which will result in widespread snow rather than snow shower. Low pressure and an associated shortwave will track across Pennsylvania this evening. Lift will be generated from mid-level warm air advection which will develop ahead of this system, and from the shortwave and associated mid-level trough. The timing of this is slightly later than previous runs, and this makes a difference because the later timing will mean that the steadiest snows will now arrive at the tail end of peak heating. This is important, because as we saw Wednesday evening snow can start accumulating quickly after 4-5 p.m. Based on this, have issued a Winter Weather Advisory for 3-6 inches of snow for the Western Southern Tier. Snow accumulation will diminish quickly to the north with 1-3 inches south of Lake Ontario, and little to no accumulation east of Lake Ontario. These accumulations will mainly be across higher terrain and on grassy surfaces, but slick spots will become more widespread after sunset. For us over in WNY!
Isure do! I was living in a cottage on Lake Orion at the time. A power line was down across our road and was sparking like crazy. Ice everywhere. We were stuck inside for a day until Edison got there and cut that line. Took several more days until all the folks on the lake were back on.
