I've used the 180 on 20+" red oak and it did fine. The narrow kerf makes a big difference. I've not had any problems with the adjuster. It is different but is okay.

The price I quoted is what came today from Stihl; spring sale so you might check your local guy and I'd bet he is good with it.

This was just the internet price. Surely the spring same price would be applicable, if I was in the market. ;)

The adjuster works ok, until you have to reinstall the chain. Then the quick adjust isn't so quick or easy, but rather a PITA.

I bought a MS 170 about 10 years ago and it was $179 back then.

I grab it more often than my bigger saws since I rarely cut any big stuff compared to others here. It has been very reliable too.

That I have not yet noticed. Only have changed once and it was easy. Different for sure, but not difficult. Maybe I was holding my mouth right for a change and it worked?

Gas chain saws for property maintenance | STIHL

Stihl Canuckistan has them on for $199.95 Ruptured Loonies. I bought one 10 years ago, then I had a major Manitoba Maple blowdown. Figured I'd blow it up if I kept running it with the bar buried, so I bought a Dolmar 5105 for the heavy cutting. Now I'm cutting DED elm so the MS 170 is mostly retired. It's still a good little saw if you remember it's little.

I got a freebie MS170 a few weeks ago and love it. Easy on my elbows and quick on limbing. We have a few downed spruce with branch whorls every few feet and it makes fast work of them.

I have used it cutting brush and vines. It threw a chain twice on me in vines and some of the guide teeth were nicked by the sprocket and needed filing before going back on the bar.

My brother used it for cutting up spruce at his place and he was impressed. Good, light and quick saw.

Did you ever revisit the guy you got your 028 from? Sounds like he had a few good saws left. I’ve been expecting you to turn up with a few more of those.

You might be a wood hoarder if you have your Stihl dealer on speed dial!

Yeah, that pico chain really helps. Just like putting lightweight wheels on a sportbike. Huge performance increase.

Hey, you guys gave it to me! :p
Do you have a Husky equivalent saw (30cc homeowner saw)? What model would it be?

hmmmm, I may take advantage of this. I use a couple old Homelite XL's (30cc) I use for limbing, but they can be temperamental at times.

My smallest is a 345 (45 cc). It has been super reliable and done more than it was probably ever intended to. Until about 14 months ago, it was my only saw. Now I gots 5 un em. All the rest are XPs.

Weight isn’t as much of an issue with Husqvarnas because they cut so fast you don’t have to hold them as long!
