Back at it again this morning. Got another load moved over to the splitter area. Had 3 logs to trim knots and buck, plus move the big rounds. Yes buZZsaw BRAD I noodled a few rounds. Started getting those split, realized why I don't like noodling, extra waste with all the strings and then had quite a few pieces be wedge shaped. Got the older splitter set-up to quarter these big rounds, that one has clothesline in it. Got another 1/3 cord row done.
I like the noodles for that purpose. I only noodle the gnarlies T.Jeff Veal for the most part. Make "pretty" splits out of what i can and use the saw on the rest.
I gather up piles of chips and noodles, and I do scatter them around where there's a bit of mud. It does help. But, I'm not running any heavy equipment through it. 1mp is heavy enough.
Gave our older 25 ton splitter some love Saturday evening, used it to quarter and halve some bigger rounds. The hookaroon and chop/pry bar rounded out the arsenal. Next evening, finished the pieces on the ramps, and moved a few more. Got a row and half done in the box. Started my 12 hr shift Monday, got home about 7PM. Finished up that box full, rigged up the worklights on the golf cart and split another box full Got another 1/3 cord row in the shed and started the last row. We were done about 9:15.
Since I like using the ramps to roll rounds up to the splitter, I did some upgrades to the set up. I noticed the table was bent down a little, so I bolted on some angle iron to that. Then I redid the support leg, adding a longer foot and another leg. Also added a mid ramp support too. Got another cord finished Saturday while my hunny was cutting grass. Better be careful going in the woods as it gets warmer. My cousin killed this nice timber rattler on the corner of our properties yesterday.
Been on my days off, so worked on various jobs as I was able. CSS some oak and did a 2 HR grass cutting job yesterday. The splitter set-up improvement seems to be working good Had a little visitor in the chunkie/cull pile Tuesday Wednesday morning, I had several logs that were too short to stay on the forks, so I bucked them to length, stacked them on a pallet and moved them to the splitter. The rack when I started... Got a couple boxes done... A good bit of this was big limb wood with a spiral grain So stacking was FUN...got plenty of air gaps in this rack... Couple more boxes will have thos rack full.
Nothing says commitment like splitting after dark! I love it! Make splits while the sun shines, right? Or when it doesn’t! Either way
Thanks, nice night when that was taken. We do that a good bit in the summer, turn on the fans too, cools us down and blows the bugs away. We usually buck rounds 1 evening before dark and split the next night. Different shed later later last summer. Now Woodwhore is hardcore dedicated, he was splitting at night in the New Hampshire winter...

Totally joking! You can feel when a piece ain’t gonna go. I reserve those for the TW5! I’ll post pics next time I get it out!
Happy Easter to y'all as well... I worked an 8 hr shift for almost 30 yrs. March '19, our dept (calciner operators) along with the shift lab techs went to a 12 hr shift rotation. Have a lot more days off, but the weather doesn't always check your schedule...lol..
I totally get it I happen to work 12 hr shifts as well. I’m just always hoping that it rains on the days I work and is sunny on the ones I dont Doesn’t always work that way though! Take what we can get, right?
Yes sir. Went a few weeks like that, work...blue sky...3 days off...start raining before daylight...work 3 days, blue sky, off 1 day...rain...it finally changed up though. Good LORD knows what we need. Are you working now? I am, got Monday night to go, the off 3 days.
Did make it to the woodyard Saturday morning. Got another big box of oak CSS. Finished up the middle row, started on the last row Then we got this post oak bucked and loaded on the ramps, ready to split, might have to cut another round or two 18" to finish that shed... Some of those big logs will make some 15-16" rounds with no extra. Have a customer already spoken for 1.25 cords that length. We will deliver it late winter.
Yes he does! I’m on today, Thursday, and Friday this week. Stuff I can get done rain or shine, so bring it on!
