Yes, bill. Thats what upset me the most.
The wife spent a lot of time and money on the fresh fruit but it was really disgusting how many hours were lost. We were both working many hours at regular jobs then and spare time to put up food was tough to find.

I've always been of the mind that when shtf, the precious metals will be brass, copper and lead. I know it depends on the situation,.but who will really want silver and gold, especially if things are bad enough for an unknown amount of time. But you will always need to defend yourself and be able to shoot food. Guess bushpilot and I will have to disagree on this one.

But I do like the homebrew statement. That could be very useful, both for consumption and trading. But im not familiar, so I'd need both supplies and the knowledge.

 

Oh. I mentioned in the other thread, timing.
Timing the threats so we know how to stay ahead of the panic buying.

So...when the WHO says it wont spread to other countries...that means ...head out now for tp and other cleaning/disinfectant supplies...

When there talking of closing borders...buys seeds and canning supplies.

I listened to an interesting YT video, science related, that really made quite a correlation on 11 year cycles of pandemic outbreaks

It's a bit abstract, but did get me to wondering if there is indeed a "cycle" that is reasonably accurate enough to warrant further investigation

Mead is the one for me. Not too complex, and 11 beehives in the yard.

Cigarettes and booze are traditionally good commodities for barter.

Cider, mead, and country wines are fairly straightforward to make (I have only made mead, but the others are similar in principle). Never made beer, I expect I never will.

 

You will always be caught by surprise, Coronavirus caught most of us by surprise. That's OK, be ready for the realistic possibilities, and the others will generally be OK. Then adapt.

Having a good supply of the everyday necessities on hand, bought for a good price, swings things strongly in your favor. And it relieves "the market" of the need to supply you during the crisis, so it is a loving act to your neighbor as well.

Adding to the list - soap and detergent, for the various cleaning needs. More important by far than hand sanitizer.

 

Rum is made by distilling a molasses wine and technically illegal.

 

Like Chvymn99 said, hand sanitizer. And other cleaning purposes....

 

Guess what you distill to get vodka?
