    Hello

Sure, moth balls will keep them away for a while, but how about a permenant solution?

Before the shed was built,, all the sod and grass was removed from under the shed, then weed block installed with 2-3 inches of 3/4" landscape stone on top.

There was no burowing, just alot of leafs dragged under there that were pile up from the stones on the ground all the way up to the shed floor completely blocking the air flow under the shed by this varmint!

The leafs were dry as a bone, so I raked out many and then used a leaf blower to get most of the rest.

Then I got 4 - 12' lengths of 5-1/2" PVC board and installed with the ruff side out.
    It will never rot.

Then I got 10 - 5 gallon buckets of stone and filled the area under the shed ramp to prevent any covert action by this little soldier!

Will this keep this guy out? Anyone else have some success keeping the critters out?

Pic 1 - Guilty party for dragging leafs under the shed and blocking the air flow!
Pic 2 - Original Shed base is open door for rodents and critters!
Pic 3 - nailed no rot PVC board around shed base and under ramp.
Pic 4 - PVC board under shed ramp
Pic 5 - Poured 3/4" stones under ramp to fill void
Pic 6 - Put ramp boards back
Pic 6 - Cut air holes with 2" hole saw for ventilation
Pic 7 - Installed vent with screen behind it.

I've had success with two different methods. With a skunk undermy shed about 10 yrs ago. I placed clumps of dog hair around the shed and some into its entrance hole, he left 2 days later.
And a few years later with chipmunks, I took some steel wool, plain no soap and worked in some peanut butter and rolled them into balls. Placed them around the holes and let the bait do the rest.
Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

Permanent as no more ever or as in that little chippy is toast?

I had a woodchuck using the area under one of my coops has a hiddy hole, I used a hav-no-hart trap baited with lettuce followed by the application of Mr. Marlin.

We have chippies burrowing in the flower garden all the time when they get to be a problem I'll do something about it but the Owls, Hawks, and resident predators keep them in check. I still haven't seen a gray squirrel on the lot this year and the chippy population took a beating.

They are up here. We had a lot of them until I got the bird feeder that they really cannot get into! Now I see them in the trees but not up around the house. Still have reds and chipmunks. They were a non issue when I had an outside cat. These cats I have now are not allowed out. Now have too many predators like Fishers, fox, coyotes, hawks, owls etc. gone are the pheasants, woodcock, rabbits, ducks etc.

Today I sat in my chair standing guard near his usual entrance on the right side of the ramp. The 1st time he came back he stopped at my foot and saw that his entrance to his former clubhouse was gone and ran into my shed. I went in and quite easily shoed him out. The 2nd time he came back he stopped by my foot and again saw no entrance and my shed door closed. So he went around to the left side and saw no entrance there either and ran off!

This may be a permanent solution?

Only if you never leave an opening, however, they do create their own when they can. They are rodents they get in unless you block their way with something that can't be moved or circumvented by them. It is an ancient war still being fought.

I had a woodchuck that kept burrowing under the concrete slab of my pole barn. I tried various methods to get it to go elsewhere. Mothballs, bricks in the hole, a bit of gasoline in the hole, nothing stopped that critter. It just made another hole.

I did achieve resolution eventually. I did my best Carl Spackler from Caddyshack impersonation - a six pack of beer in one hand and a rifle in the other. Problem solved in about 90 minutes.

"It is an ancient war still being fought." ... but, but... they can talk. I've seen it on TV. They have feeeeeeeeelings. We should just ask them politely to leave, and I'm sure they will...... :D

I suppose that is true the woodchuck that just came out of the pucker brush and down over the flower garden into our "back" yard where the vegetable garden is will "feeeeeeeel" the number six shot that is now in the blunderbuss if it shows up and I see it. I also baited and set the have no heart trap.

Normally they are all over the place but something did a good clean up job on them and the normally abundant chipmunks.

I've seen one squirrel on my property in the nearly 13 years I've lived here. I was making my coffee looking out the kitchen window and I saw it climb the utility pole in my front yard on a very cold February morning.

It got a little too brave when it neared the top of the pole, jumped and hit the transformer and blew the kicker fuse. It fell to the snow on the ground below, never to climb another pole. It only took the utility company about an hour to come out and fix the problem after I convinced their call center folks that the problem was not with my main breaker, but with a suicidal squirrel. I left the squirrel underneath the transformer as evidence.

I've found that rat traps work good for chipmunks, but make sure you screw the trap down to a decent sized piece of 2x6 first, otherwise the trap might get dragged off somewhere with the chipmunk attached, then you're out the cash for the trap. I don't mind the critters running around, but once they decided that inside my garage or pole barn is their permanent residence, all bets are off. It's amazing what damage chipmunks can do to contents of a building (or a car) once they've found their way inside.

If you tune the spring using a couple of pennies the trap doesn't develop little legs to carry it off.

Don't ask me! I have 3 sheds and the lower deck that have become shelter for a family of groundhogs. After I saw 4 babies, it was time they went.

Phil and family were 6 and now a family of 3. This is mama I think.
