The 241 has had almost 4 gallons of mix run through it and the chain is almost ready to replace. I had the top cover off last night cleaning the saw off and checking the air filter. Anyway, I noticed a dark oily sawdust build up around the decomp valve. Might this indicate a leak in the valve? I have not used the valve and don't see a need for it. I checked the decomps on my 390 and 440 and there is some saw dust around them but it isn't oily.
Done minus the running. It is going to be worked hard on Monday. Cutting 2200' of oak fence boards off the posts in order to go to the reclaimed flooring company.
The chain almost needs replaced after just 4 tanks? What are you cutting, how many times has it been sharpened?
I had to read that twice, he indicated 4 GALLONS have gone through the saw. With a 12.5 oz. tank that would equate to more than 40 fillups.
I would love to know your take on that saw after that much run time. Real user reviews are very valuable. So, if you could it would be very much appreciated!
Sorry guys, yep I would guess 30-40 fill ups since I got it a month or so ago. The saw is fantastic. It has been seeing up to 3-4 tanks full on some days. Really light in a practical sense. I was using an MS 250 and when I was cutting fence post tops with it my arms would start burning after 30-40 tops. The burn doesn't start till 50+ with the 241. I think part of it has to do with the better AV. I have not cut a bunch of firewood with it but it flew through white oak up to about 10".
Clean it and don't use it for awhile. If it still leaks, plug it. 4 gallons thru a 241 is a good bit of run time. Especially in such a short period of time. Been using the snot outta that one eh?
Here is what the saw looked like after I was done with it. They were PS3. "What do they get ya for those?" Not sure what that means. Price?
Holy Chit! ! You sure have used that little booger! Does it run as expected? How does it compare to your 025/250 it replaced?
That's funny, I have a local firewood cutter (semi-commercial) that runs both a 250 and a 241 as well. He likes the 241 a lot better!
I bought files and oil as well so not exactly sure on chain price. It is a great little saw! Only minor thing is it starts hesitating a fair amount time before it actually runs out of gas when you are working it hard. First time it did it I was WTF? but now I know what it is when it starts. Could be just the fuel pickup on this particular saw? That and the useless decomp valve.
