I only work a couple days a week so I have the majority of the week to gather wood, mostly off craigs list. But since this dang virus is going around and everyone is out of work, I have to be on top of it constantly. Its like everyday is a saturday now. Wood get snatched up within minutes of being posted. It got so darn bad I went and picked up a load of sweet gum maple because its all I could get. Anyone else having this trouble?
I thought I was when this guy is driving down my street. I'm the last house on a marked dead end street so there is almost no traffic. He is a tree servive looking for a place to get rid of chips. But he also needed to get rid of some oak logs. After bucking/splitting come out to 1.5 cord. It was all less than my 20" bar in diameter
Have fun splitting that Sweet gum. I'm working on splitting a very big one now and it's by far the worst, stringiest wood to split I've ever encountered.
Oh I'm very aware of how sweet gum goes. I picked up three truck loads of it before I knew what it was. Sweet gum is the worst I've chopped.
Welcome to FHC Juniper Hill What part of Washington are you in? I’m from the Mt. Hood area in Oregon, but I am in Wenatchee for work right now, I will be in Ellensburg, Yakima, Colville and Kennewick this week, I was just up in Omak, earlier today Doug
Yep, I don't think many people pay attention to that or wade through craigslist to find someone. At least not in my experience.
In my area free wood goes fast at a normal time. Good scores don't last more than 2 days. A couple I got into had alot of real nice rounds or logs, I would haul from there for a day. and have to take a day off due to rain, or other doings. One score I got last year, where I got my truck stuck on a Monday, Tuesday it rained, went back Wednesday, and sure enough somebody had better equipment than me. They must have gotten mired about 5 times, and I could see where they chained or cabled around a tree or 2 to winch out of. There must have been 15 nice loads taken that day. I try to get scores the day after they are posted, then I get behind on other stuff. The wife will bury my arse under the log pile one day....
I lived in Lynnwood for a couple years around 2005 when I was just getting started as an adult. Its cheap over there but not great neighborhoods.
Howdy stranger! I’m on the other side of the water. Bremerton area. After this virus came around I kind of stopped the scrounging so much not because I have a lot of wood but need to catch up on my projects. Lots of splitting to do. I don’t find anything roadside much out here. It’s mostly pick up at another property all over. Also it tends to be a fair distance from me... and I prefer not to get in too deep. At least I can work on getting caught up. Welcome to the woods, good luck splitting that gum.
I’m not having any issues at all. The huge stuff doesn’t scare me away so I kind of gravitate towards that. Most of the time people take everything but. Oak seems to be popping up quite frequently around me. Are you on Facebook Marketplace?
Welcome to FHC Juniper Hill. Keep after it. Lucked out yesterday when a buddy called about bringing me some wood. Ash and highly valuable black walnut. Mostly all cut to length.
