What a beautiful day here as well! I played outside with my daughter for a bit, and then we planted some seeds for the vegetable garden.
Okay with my copd the last couple of years about November I go into hibernation as it is getting cold enough to effect my breathing. Generally about this time of year I start to come out as it is warm enough to start running errands. But not this year. I am in a self imposed stay at home and it is starting to drive me nuts. (I know short road). So being in upper 50s I put my fleeced lined hoody on and grabbed a couple beers and off Holly and I went. The property is starting to dry out pretty good but still has a long way to go. But sitting out there for an hour, hour and a half in the sunshine was pure joy. Just so you know I was on the ATV.
We do some canning. We hit the spaghetti sauce we canned last year pretty hard. Only one Grandson got a deer last year and he pretty much burgered the whole thing, Usually a couple of grandkids or and our son gets one and we put our order in for chunks. Love to can up venison and use to can some beef when we raised them. Can't beat opening a jar, heat it and pour over some noodles and so mash potatoes for a quick meal. Unfortunately, canning seem to becoming a lost art. Glad to see your are doing it,
This will be my last canning until July when I do my pickled beets. After that is is all about tomato sauce. I put up 50-60 quarts a summer. I also can salsa, dill beans, cucumber pickles, hot/sweet peppers, and pesto but that is not canned. I freeze it. The other pressure canning I do besides fish, is venison and other game meats. I will get a thread going on canning to see if we can generate some interest and share recipes.
Here are some pics I took yesterday so you can see the amount of melt I had in one weeks time compared to those in the quote above. ^^^
Our state stopped issuing burn permits. Then again, you don't need them for burn barrels. Heck, nobody really cares anyway, and I could just light up the pile and nobody would care.
I dont know of anybody that has a burn permit for a fire pit here. Hell, my last party in the fall had one of the town firefighters wives in attendance.
Colo. DOW has turned the process of applying for big game tags into a chore, but it's done. And, for the first time, I put in for a Bear tag. If I actually pull a tag, I'll photocopy it and hang copies from the bird feeders, let the bears know, I'm done with their shenanigans....
